Hmm pretty useless imo!! I think we need cameras for this sort of thing then as nothing is getting through at the moment is it?

I do not believe fining and punnishing people for flouting the law is working - if it was we probably wouldn't be having this conversation. At least if you genuinely believe it is all about road safety and not lining the public purse.

The only thing that will IMO improve road safety is education and more stringent testing. Including a periodic retest. I would happily take a retest every year if nessecary if it meant getting some of the other idiots of the road.
  • Absolutely without doubt my biggest pet hate when driving, when I see some idiot speaking on their mobile phone when driving it makes my blood boil! Selfish people who don't care about how their actions might affect other road users

It's on a par with drink driving imho, if these people are so intent on speaking on the phone whilst driving then why not get a hands free??

Hmm an aversion to cameras lol..it's responces like that, that are usually from people who do things wrong and therefore hate them!

I dont see what lining the publics purse has to do with it..it's quite simple..don't break the law you won't get fined..what is wrong with some peoples minds that they don't understand? (not you just saying)..it is like saying well i can jump a red traffic light because i'm in a hurry?? no.

I agree..id'e do one too..i was told yesterday by my old driving instructor that i was one of the very good drivers he had taught, he said most of them he sees he cringes as they just turn into idiots and he is ashamed! i said he was only being nice but he said i had lots of common sense and thought ahead etc (i gave him a lift last week!)..isn't that what it's about not chatting to your mate?..i'm not perfect by any means but hey i try!!:A

There is a website where you can name and shame drivers with their registration number.
It covers all matters related to careless drivers, for the life of me I haven't got and can't find the web address.

I may have it as a bookmark on my desktop computer, will look later.

Sadly this offense causes a stack of paperwork and the number of people who are actually stopped and charged is very small.
Just think about how much paperwork would be generated if more people were stopped.

Upon doing a search there appears to be a few websites jumped on this band wagon.
But the website I was referring to is here:

    http://www.betterdrivingplease.com/

But it appears to have been shut down.

I am so so sick of seeing stupid drivers with mobiles in their hands while driving, i feel really strongly about it and it never ceases to amaze me how many idiots still do it...the best are the lorrys who are 10 times more likely to write your whole car off if not kill you if they don't keep alert. This morning I was driving the kids to school with one behind me and he wasn't concentrating in the slightest..i couldn't get the reg and tbh was so worried he was going to go right into the back of us i was glad to pull off and get rid!
I knew the name of the co though and have often said to dh i am going to write to the local paper and ask for a name and shame section where people can email in especially the companys who have been spotted, they can list them each month..would it embarrass them?
I have seen a few in my town who i will actually boycott over using now as think they are selfish and brainless.

So any reasons why this can't be done? i expect there is something i haven't thought of..i heard on the radio this morning about the web site with the criminals on who have been told it is like being in the stocks again and it is not fair to let everyone know who they are??!

    Opinions please..

Nice theory, but it'll just give more ammo to all the whinging motorists who think they are "victimised" all the time.

I wouldn't mind them crashing and causing an accident if they were the only ones affected, but it'd probably lead to someone else being mowed down or smashed up whilst the mobile phone using driver, completely oblivious, just gets away without even a scratch.
