This morning I was driving the kids to school

Get the kids to walk/cycle/run to school. These parents on the school run are just clogging up the roads and their children's arteries.

Can I jump on the bandwaggon :D and have a moan at pedestrians on their mobiles or listening to their mp3/ipod or whatever ...who then pay no heed when crossing the road!!..talk about lack of attention. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen this!

What scares me the most is the number of haulage drivers I see using their mobiles, driving with the elbows on the wheel.
These are supposed to be professional drivers.
Sadly this offense causes a stack of paperwork and the number of people who are actually stopped and charged is very small.
  • they cause unnecesary congestion on roads, they park in crazy places outside schools with no regard for anyone safety other than getting thier kids to school at 2 minutes to 9.
it something i feel really strongly about, a parent with 2 tired kids in the back of the x5 not strapped in shouting and causing the driver to be distracted and not concentrating.
there was one behind me the other day, i though if she doesn't stop looking round to tend to her kids in the back she won't see me braking and will run into the back of me,possibly writing me off.
maybe we should name and shame anyone we see with kids in the back of the car causing a slight distraction to the driver in our local papers.

Which section of the Road Traffic Act states it's illegal to drive a car with children in it???

Its easy to spot the texters on the M1, they are the ones who slow to 40MPH in the middle lane! am amazed there arent more accidents.
  • I agree using mobile phones whilst driving is dangerous but so is a number of other things which people don't make a fuss about.

Personally i think anyone seen driving around with one or both of their wing mirrors in should be shot at dawn. In my opinion anyone not using their mirrors enough to even notice that they are folded in is a complete liability much worse than mobile phone users.

I don't think it is a good idea to have a name and shame for two reasons:
Firstly how would you like every mistake you ever made to be published for the world to see?
I'm not perfect and have even made some dangerous mistakes over the years but i've learnt my lesson without them being immortalised in news print.

Secondly if all that is needed is one person's say so, whats to stop malicous people making up stories. All it would take is one disgruntled customer to phone up and fabricate a story about a firms driver using mobile phones to potentially damage a companies hard earned reputation.

As someone said its akin to putting someone in the stocks....however even they used to get some sort of trial.

The current penalties are enough IMO we have a police force and a legal system for a reason (however (in)effective it maybe).

I agree but it is not illegal to drink at the wheel etc..as much as it an arguable point it isn't relevent.

I agree with the danger aspect of the mirrors but dont think it is worse than being on a mobile tbh

I don't think it is a good idea to have a name and shame for two reasons:
Firstly how would you like every mistake you ever made to be published for the world to see? I never make mistakes!!..joke..but it wouldn't be would it because any mistake i make is purely a 'mistake'..using a mobile you know exactly what you are doing don't you?
I'm not perfect and have even made some dangerous mistakes over the years but i've learnt my lesson without them being immortalised in news print. So have i but again a 'mistake' not intentionally picking up my phone and causing other danger without thinking

Secondly if all that is needed is one person's say so, whats to stop malicous people making up stories. All it would take is one disgruntled customer to phone up and fabricate a story about a firms driver using mobile phones to potentially damage a companies hard earned reputation.
This was my only thinking of it last night and agree you would poss get some fools who think it is funny to dob their mate in!

Hmm pretty useless imo!! I think we need cameras for this sort of thing then as nothing is getting through at the moment is it?
