I've not done to bad this week I suppose, I had to throw out 5ish satsumas as they were too dry, a little bit of jam left in the bottom of a jar, 1 slice of ham, quarter of a cheesecake as it had also gone dry in fridge!Just trying to be me.....0

I now tend to plan my menu around anything that might be getting a bit tired! If theres spring onions going I use them instead of regular onion , anything that does escape me and thats quite rare now! - goes into compost, but I make sure the compost is out of peelings and I'm not paying to fill it up with stuff we haven't eaten!0

This week was horrendous - as part of my "sort my life out" push Ive been on while Ive been off work I cleaned out my cupboards - I think there were at least 5 tubes of out of date tomato purree!
My bins looked like a scene from saving private ryan by the time i was finished
On the upside - now I plan my menus and buy what i need... every bean is a prisoner.0 -
What a clever thread!
My food bill has seen enormous cuts since I found this site, so I don't throw any food away at all. So it pained me a bit when I had to put a few potatoes in the compost this evening - I would have discovered penicillin if Fleming hadn't already done so - totally forgot about them.....Overpay!0 -
some tomato & fish thing I cooked last week & just didn't eat the last bit of. Ditto a small amount of veggie soup. And some mouldering spring greens, though they went in the compost. quite a lot really0

I try not to through food out. I keep a bag in the freezer, where I put tried vegetables and then I get them all out when I need to make stock. I even save all of the vegetable water (that I've cooked the veggies in) and freeze that to make stock. But then I am aiming to be self sufficient and I grow all of my own vegetables.Wombling £457.410

Whats with the onions??!!!??
I find buying less helps as well, you become more inventive!! I also keep a few packets of frozen veg in case we were to run out, although I've never been a fan of frozen carrots, but happily thats one thing that seems never to run out, we could keep bugs bunny quite happy!0 -
I've thrown out a manky old ready meal from the bottom of the freezer (we don't do ready meals these days, and this was one that must have got forgotten about!). Nothing else so far, although I've got some mushrooms in the fridge that are starting to look a bit sorry for themselves......time for a trip to the Old Style boards for some ideas to use them up....or might just have mushrooms on toast for lunch!
And  to lyric-grace........you threw out cheesecake????? :rotfl: :rotfl:"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250
