OK - from the top of my head, you could have moved out of the house and reduced your outgoings (rented a room in a house etc).
You could have got a lodger to help pay the bills.
You could have got a part time bar job at weekends or on you days off for some extra cash.
If you have a car - sell it, get a cheaper one or get public transport to work (if possible)

Loads of ways to generate extra cash if you really need to.
if only these things were as easy as you suggeted #

Could one of the blessed who have never been charged a fee explain now how they would be worse off under that system?

If you keep between £5K and £7K in a Lloyds Vantage current account, not only do you not pay any charges, but you get quite a respectable 4.5% interest. I opened one of these a few weeks ago and am very happy with it.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I think you need to accept that not everyone shares your view. There are a few cases where people have been genuinely unfairly charged by their banks. All power to them in fighting back.

Sadly, too many people get themselves in a mess because they can’t go without the latest gadget or designer shoes. I have no sympathy for these people. They are part of the problem with today’s society, not the solution.

I don't think you'll find many of those people on this thread - most of us are in the "overcharged" and in debt and screwed over camp where debt didn't buy us designer shoes it paid the gas bill and rent etc.

On behalf of myself, if I had any designer shoes, I'd have sold them long ago to pay back my debt..

I know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok - they know me here! :D

IT IS A FACT ... When you are dead they cant chase you for money, and if you havent got a pot to p#ss in anyway they wont even bother chasing your estate that may be contained in your flea ridden council flat.

hmm, im wondering if you are basing this on your self, you do appear very bitter and angry, please speak to someone who can help you it really would make all the difference. i would hate to think you were feeling so low like you seem to be.

Meanwhile, back at the bank charges forum...

I think the banks are in so much trouble that these charges are just the public excuse at the moment. With the situation they are in, they were always going to put charges here and there and it was the end of free banking. This was shown by their new current accounts they try to get you to sign up to, with a monthly fee for travel insurance and such things you probably wouldn't use or could get cheaper elsewhere. They now do not have the excuse that they are paying back bank charges but I'm pretty sure we'll all still see fees being added here and there. If they were so sure they weren't doing anything wrong, why refund millions of pounds in "goodwill gestures"? Since when have the banks done anything with "goodwill"?
I think we should put a petition forward to demand the goverment take back the money they paid to keep these banks afloat and then watch them struggle just like the americans did
