I think clay and water is fine - you may need a moisturiser afterwards as without the oil your skin may feel tight.
This is my clay mask recipe & my skin liked it but I only use once a week/fortnight as a deep cleanse.
rhassoul clay
ground almonds/almond flour
a little almond oil
water to make a paste
lavender essential oil.
I have very oily skin - if your skin is dry maybe add more oil?
The clay is a great cleanser, almonds exfoliate & oil is needed as the clay can be a bit drying."I am not a vegetarian because I love animals; I am a vegetarian because I hate plants." A. Whitney Brown0 -

Fab! I suppose that's why Lush add so many odd bits of oil to their mask with rhassoul clay. I have a big bottle of sweet almond oil so this could be a good use for it.
My skin is sensitive, slightly oily T-zone, and it really likes the Lush face mask with the clay and generally responds well to simple and natural face masks.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -

Um, not sure. Maybe you could grate it? Maybe a little chunk would be ok with a little oil and water to make a paste? Good luck!"I am not a vegetarian because I love animals; I am a vegetarian because I hate plants." A. Whitney Brown0 -

ThanksIt dissolved really well in warm water and have used a drop of water and almond oil to make a thick face mask, might add something to thicken it up a bit.

Vaseline is another good one- though can leave your eyes all bleary!
I use up any old moisturisers (apply and remove with cotton wool pads or a flannel or muslin cloth) that otherwise would not have agreed with my skin and as long as I rinse/wash my face afterwards I don't tend to get any problems.
I have never found soap to remove mascara well but liquid facial soaps for some reason do work.
Vaseline is mostly all i've used also for eye make up remover. Don't forget to put it on at night over chapped lips also and dry heels.0 -
Thanks for the ideas ladies! So many good ones
Olive oil (if it hasn't been mentioned) is another great 1 time a wk. moisturizer for dry skin.0 -
l use a mix of cold-pressed food grade vegetable & essential oils, dried chamomile flowers aloe vera(fresh plant when poss.) as toner, moisturiser.hair gel, conditioner etc depending on my mood LOL;unpasteurised(?) cider vinegar till now.but will try other sorts now as well ty
,& l bought a kilo tub of organic unpressed shea made by a women's co-operative when l was at a market in france for apx 50 euros.
l am very allergic to just about everything but don't have the energy to eat well all the time even tho l do notice the difference but the stuff l've mentioned does seem to help skin, hair etc problems.
Wholegrain oats from lidl or aldi,honey,pre/pro-biotic yogurt & crushed vits/minerals are on the to do list as well.
thinking of switching to goat milk products soon.
Can glycerine clog pores like baby oil?
l've bought some big bottles of various tinctures from the local chemist like oat/chamomile/valerian comparatively very cheap while l'm on hols so a big saving there :-)
somebody on mse also suggested pouring any spare boiled water when making a hot drink into a thermos & if you add teabags from all the cuppas as you go it makes a fab rinse for hair/body etc.
bottled sterile water obv.
rose water can contain a lot of sugar & nasties so essential rose oil is a very good investment.
muslin cloths from baby section of mr T to steam/wash/applying gloop.
l have a few old facecare books that are v helpful;kitty little & zia-something-american.Carpe Jugulem0 -
Don't know if it's been mentioned before, but I use coconut oil on my skin (face included). I buy a big tub in Holland & Barratt whenever it's on offer (often on sale for about £5.99) and this lasts for ages + I use it in some cooking as well. I use diluted witchhazel as a toner, and buy the witchhazel in B&M for about £1 I think. I use almond oil bought from a local chemist as a cleanser. The night before I wash my hair I rub some coconut oil or almond oil into it as a conditioner. I use olive oil soap (89p) to wash, and am thinking I might use this to wash my hair also. These are not "home-made" as such, but all natural substances with no preservatives or other toxic substances.0
