Just a thought but I would ask you to all think about the fact that 'excema' and psoriasis' (although not mentioned as such ) are different things....what i am trying to say in a too wordy way is that some treatments may not suit all and that an itchy scalp for one person may not be the same for another. (need a 'blush' emoticon)i
many natural products are excellent for such ailments. Personally the following have been recommended to me by friends Nutrogena is good, as is Lush stuff and Nels YArd are really helpful as is Body Shop. Alos please check out local businesse that sell health products as they are often over looked. In the end though it is what you feel works for you. Homemade stuff can help in the beginning but sometimes can be too harsh if the condition starts to clear up. I would suggest that wherever you go ask for a samples if posssible.
Tbph i have found that alternating treatment helps too. Skin becomes immune to many treatments which can invariable lead to a worse problem.

Yes, have tried it.....doesn't really help.

    Now trying something from 'Allergenics'

The fault is actually seb. dermatitis which comes out when I sweat or it gets wet....it itches, i scratch it....and so it continues

Annoying about the T-Gel as it's supposed to treat Seb. Dermatitis and scalp psoriasis! Do you leave it on the scalp for a few minutes - as a treatment, rather than just a shampoo?

I'm doubting the salt advice now, as I wonder if that might aggravate things? You want a gentle treatment, not something that stimulates the seborrhoeic glands.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
  • Yes, put it on and let it stay for 5 mins......also tried Selsun?, I think it was. Also have something to try Eucerin which has 5% urea.

It seems to flair up as soon as my scalp gets wet, either with sweat from wearing a cap (which I rarely do unless for extreme sun protection) or just plain water from washing, then occassionaly in the morning when I wake up feeling hungry I feel the skin "pulling".....the doctor said it was all stress related....could be....not sure....but have had it on & off for more than 10 yrs now and where possible just have short hair and wash it as infrequently as possible - I'm not a tramp, honestly ;)

I got it all cut off yesterday, light shampooing/washing the short bits away immediately afterwards brought up the rashes even more, by tea-time they had died away but I didn't have any olive oil in the apartment, now I do :-) and all that remains is this itchy dandruff/flaky skin that keeps peeling off where the marks were.......as I said last summer with the loofa seems to work alright, afterwards the exposure to sunlight & fresh air cleared it up an absolute treat!....its a pity the Kojak look doesn't suit me :p

As you suggest.......something is triggering the glands to function and what I need to avoid.

    Just done it.....olive oil & sugar....worked a treat!...excellent....thanks for that!

I don't know what seb dermatitis is but maybe a head massage using coconut oil might help? Coconut oil is very good for the skin and scalp. You should be able to find it in an Indian/ethnic food store, or order it online.
  • hello - there's a new company called beauty kitchen and they make stuff for you, they seem quite good. i saw it on glamourmagazine uk in the fast beauty section. there's a pot under the picture of the product - hope this is helpful x

My fave HM beauty treatments so far...

    Lip Balm:
1 tsp oil (I like almond or olive best)
    1/2 tsp castor oil
    1/2 to 1 tsp beeswax
    1 tsp shea butter

Gently melt the beeswax & shea butter (ideally in a bain marie but I'm often too lazy and use the microwave). Add the oils, mix well & leave to cool/set.

Sometimes I add a little honey and/or a few drops of aroma oil for scent/taste (I get mine from Aromantic.com).

    Lip Scrub:
    1 tbsp sugar
    Mix with a little oil
optional extras: Aroma oil, melted choc (yum), honey, vanilla essence or whatever else I fancy the taste of!

    Moisturising Cream:
4 tbsp oil (I use 1 castor, 1 olive & 2 grapeseed as it suits my skin but I have tried all almond & all olive oils and it has worked ok)
    2 tbsp shea butter
    2 tbsp coconut oil
    1-2 tbsp beeswax
    2 tbsp aloe vera gel
a few drops vit e oil (from capsules)

Mix liquid oils & aloe vera. Gently melt beeswax & solid oils. Add together and mix like crazy! NB:If the liquid oils are warm it all mixes better.

Instead of aloe you can use distilled water, herbal tea or rosewater but it won't keep as long. I usally add a few drops of essential oils too. My skin seems to like lavender but my last attempt was Bergamot & mandarin & it smelt lovely.

It makes quite a solid/concentrated cream so you only need to use a tiny amount but it sorts out my eczema a treat. I guess you could add more water to make it lighter, more of a lotion, but I am still experimenting. :D

Hi everyone:) I'm fed up with having to read ingredients on products and work out which ones I have a problem with (my skin doesn't tolerate mineral oil), there always seems to be a problem with products that I like, delivery problems or too expensive so I've read through quite a bit of this thread and got some great info, I'm going to attempt to make my own moisturising cream, one for the face and one for the body, I really need both of them to be firming, especially the facial one and preferably the body one to be oil free, I wear fake tan and oils strip it, is there a specific ingredient that is firming? Does anyone have any other tips for me, simple ones if possible;)or any other sites with easy recipes or good value reputable online suppliers - thanks for any help:)
Thank you for this site Martin

Anyone had any experience with rhassoul clay at home?
I noticed it's the main worth while ingredient in one of the lush face masks and google says it's a new "in" thing in posh spas and really good for drawing oil from the skin. It looks like it's pretty cheap to buy powdered but not sure whether just adding water will really get the benefits.

I am veryyyy in to home made beauty treatments, and am always looking to make somehting new :D Not gonna be attempting a DIY chemical peel anytime soon but lush kind of products are definitely doable.
