Tinned salmon - I would use just like cooked/smoked salmon.
Salads, pasta, into fish pie, into quiche.

Tinned cheese - quiche, sauces (pasta sauce, cauliflower cheese), quiche.

Dried peas - soak and soup. As addition to other style soups or pea&ham soup.

Stewed steak - I would throw carrot or/and mushroom and peas in to bulk it up, brocolli on the side and serve with potatoes. I don't like pies, I don't see any point in the pastry at all. I have either pasty (meat and side as the pastry is the side) or meat and potatoes (potatoes being the side). Absolutely no point for both. But that is just me!

Many years ago (so I don't have the recipe) I went to a friends for lunch. We had spaghetti with salmon and it was delicious. I remember she said she used cream in the sauce.

It might have been as simple as tossing the cooked spaghetti in cream and the flaked tinned salmon. Maybe add some chopped dill if you have any. Or lemon zest and pepper would also go well.

A variation (many actually) of this is a campervan special for us, or a quick supper if I am not feeling the love for proper cooking.

Any type of pasta cooked, along with some of the following:-cream or similar, tinned salmon, chopped spring onion, saut!ed onion or better still shallot, saut!ed mushroom, black pepper, Italian seasoning, chopped parsley, dill, chopped gherkins, a few capers. Combine ingredients, season to taste and if a little too thick add a small amount of milk. Great with a side salad or steamed broccoli, if not on a diet a side of garlic bread is pretty good too.

I have been trying to eat a goodly portion of Bran Flakes each day, but hate all the dusty stuff left at the end of the packet, I did add a little to a crumble topping yesterday and OH has not complained. Any other thoughts how I could use it please?

  • I recently cleaned my kitchen cupboards - found a couple of packets of dried peas - any ideas how to use them ?

Buy pea shooters and have a Pea War. There is no other good use for dried peas. Fact.

Haha! That reminds me, we used to use lentils or dried peas to make bean bags for playing with.
  • What a good thread, I have a ton of pumpkin seeds left to use up. Any ideas?

Mix it with some breadcrumbs and use as a coating for fish, chicken etc before frying or mixed with cheese/breadcrumbs to sprinkle on a gratin before baking.

<snip> I have a tin of stewed steak that I need to use up.

    THREE TIN BEEF STEW

    Makes 4 x 250ml bowls

    INGREDIENTS

1 tin of stewed steak in gravy
1 tin of new potatoes in water
1 tin of sliced carrots, sliced mushrooms or garden peas in water

    METHOD

Open the tin of steak. Put the steak and gravy into a saucepan.

Open the tin of potatoes. Drain the water into the saucepan. Cut the potatoes into 2cm (1 inch) pieces. Add the potatoes to the saucepan.

Open the tin of carrots, mushrooms or peas. Add them and the water to the saucepan.

    Stir thoroughly.

Put the saucepan on a medium heat. Bring to the boil, then turn down the heat until it is just boiling. Put the lid on the saucepan and continue to cook for 5 minutes until the potatoes are cooked.

    ADDITIONS & ALTERNATIVES

    Add a beef stock cube.

Add a teaspoon of dried parsley.

Use more than two tins of vegetables.

    TIPS

If any of the potatoes are damaged, mash them up and add them to the saucepan. They will help to thicken the stew.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)
