Hi guys!
In a healthy freakish moment I bought dried Soya Mince. Tried to make a spag bol with it ages ago but didn't quite live up to expectations.
I'm trying to use up all my dried store cupboard items, so has anyone any good ways to make use of this or hiding it in something else?

I tried this recently with just plain mince & it was lovely. It only uses a fairly small amount of mince, almost more for texture than taste.
I should accredit it - the recipe is from the freebie email newsletter from savingdinner.com (you'll guess from the quantities that it's an American site!)
I cut the quantities in half for 2 of us but only noticed afterwards it's mean to serve 6
Leanne's Quick and Easy Quiche
1 dozen eggs, beaten like for scrambled eggs
1/4 cup milk or water
salt and pepper to taste
1 10 oz. package of frozen, chopped spinach; thawed and drained well
1 small onion chopped and sauteed
1 cup ground beef, cooked (I use just about anything from leftover spaghetti meat to leftover taco meat--use whatever you have)
6 oz. shredded sharp cheddar (I use lowfat)
In a bowl, beat your eggs and add milk, salt and pepper. In a lightly greased 9 x 13 baking dish, put meat, spinach and cheese down then top with egg mixture. Bake @ 350 for 20-30 minutes, but check it often. I have noticed a great deal of difference in cooking times on this depending on what you've tossed in there and how accurate and evenly your oven bakes.0 -

I think its terrible alone but i buy it all the time to mix with real mince.
What I have found, to get the best out of it is to mix it well with the beef mince and a crumbled oxo, leave it for 10 mins at least before frying it off. It absorbs some of the moisture in the mince so frying is actually easier and the water doesn't come out of it.
That way its perfect.
Hope that helps0 -
Glad this Thread has been brought back to life again - I'm planning to use up what we have in Freezers/cupboards in readiness for family visiting at Xmas. Will do a stocktake tomorrow but have had a sneaky peek and what's worrying me so far are 2 large bags of yellow split peas.:o Thought I'd use them all up but these have jumped out at me - will get a list done and then I shall be scouring these pages for some Recipes/ideas. I already take part in the GC and there are some Fab recipes there too."WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

This part of MSE is a treasure trove. Every time I log on I find more treasures thanks to being pointed in the right direction so I was wondering if there is anywhere which gives a typical store cupboard?

Long tall sally - only thing I use Creamed coconut in is a Curry, as for the Hazlenuts, what about using them with crushed biscuits for a cheesecake base or add them to Twinks hobnob recipe?
Off now to check out my cupboards."WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.
