Store cupboard challenge

Hi All,
Its lovely to see this thread getting rejuvinated! Welcome to all those shimmying from the GC and welcome to those who are lurking!
I thought i was making a grand start to my SC, hadnt bought anything! popped by my parents and mum had bought me 8 1.5ltr cartons of apple juice from Lid! on the offer of 42p. . . i musnt grumble as i drink about a litre or so a week so will see me thru til xmas and a VERY good price... but i am wondering where to store it... drinks cupboard is full... kitchen cupboards are full... hmmm... lol, i'm tempted to take a pic of all the food so u can see my mountains and then when i have depleted them you can see the difference... what do you reckon?
Anyhow,
i have eaten the HM defrosted meals in the fridge and took some more out to defrost, so meal plan for a couple of days:
Tonight : Dinner = Salmon with roast potatoes, and veggies / apple and blackberry pie and custard or icecream
Monday - Lunch - Pasta Bolognese (small portion)
Dinner - HM Chicken And Veg Pie with Potato Wedges
Tuesday Lunch - HM Salami Risotto (is it ok to reheat in microwave?)
Dinner - HM Chicken Goujons and mash with veggies and gravy.
I cant plan for more than a couple of days at a time as with my IBS i need to be fairly fluid in what i set myself to eat as if something hurts my tum, i have to change it.
At the end of the forthcoming week i will repost my list with items used with a strikethru line and items added in bold and blue, ie today i chopped the celery and red pepper up that were getting a little limp in the fridge to pop in the freezer to go in a mince dish to bulk it out a bit.
I have the theory, that if everything i am going to batch cook with, comes out of the freezer, it should fit back in there??
we will be the Edmund Hilary's of the food mountain world !!xx
Each day is a new beginning, look at what you have an be grateful for every tiny thing. You don't know when it may be taken away.0 -

I'd imagine it would taste lovely with the crushed up poppy seed thins - might be worth trying with a cheap lamb breast too.
That's a lovely idea - I wouldn't have thought of that, and I'm certain I've still got the remains of a pack of bulgar wheat lurking in the cupboard so I could clear out two things in one go.
Thanks very much! :TBack after a very long break!0 -

I'm no cooking expert but I often use the microwave to reheat frozen home made meals, especially rice ones. Just make sure it's "piping hot throughout" as the instructions always say
Does anyone have any bright ideas for using fresh kiwi fruit quick before they go soft? I bought a punnet of 6 because it was cheaper than buying the 2 I actually wanted for fruit salads, and now I don't know what to do with the rest0 -
Well, I spent £31 in Sainsbury's today, but did buy some items I really shouldn't - chocolate, yum yums - but did pick up some reduced bakery & vegetables, which will get me through the next few days.
I blitzed the slow cooked pepper & tomato mixture but forgot to take out one of the bay leaves, so I had to pass it through a sieve to get rid of the bits). Had it tonight as a pasta bake, and it was lovely - a meal literally from nothing!!
I think we'll have meatless roast tomorrow to start using up the veggies I got today, but must, must make sure I do somehting for lunch so I don't spend money unnecessarily!0 -
As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread to give you more ideas:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0

I haven't made much of a dent in my stores over the weekend but I have ensured we have used the leftovers from Saturday's party, nothing has been wasted. That's my excuse for eating warmed donuts with a dusting of extra caster sugar on for breakfast for the last 2 days:p:o I will have the pot skins and salad today and the rest of the cheesecake is for tea. The extra rolls are going in the freezer and we had hot dogs for supper last night. Will also be using up fresh veg, 2 portions of shepherds pie and the last 2 yorkshire puds tonight.
DH bought wanted a huge box of quaker oats from C0stco oat the weekend so I have this to add to the list:o We were good though, apart from this and 624 nappies:eek: we bought nothing else.:)
I am making a 'Hot Stuff' hamper for my BIL for cmas following on from the success of the pasta hamper I made him last year and there are a couple of things in my stores that could go in this and save me buying them again as it will contain stuff to make chilli, spicy tortillas and a dish to cook them in. Will also get some mexican beer and chilli choclate as well. Sorry having a bit of an off topic ramble there:oSave £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
Make £2021 extra income - £99.750 -
I've put together my meal plan for next week (that's early by my standards) and it looks like I'm going to need to buy a grand total of 2 food items - cheese and sour cream. Everything else is from my storecupboard. :j
Over the past two days I've used up (or made plans to use up) one pack of submarine rolls, the remains of a bag of chips, one ready made salmon en croute, and a pack of sliced FR turkey and stuffing (bought RTC but still a rather pricy treat - but it's my favourite sandwich filling).
I'm hoping things will look a little better by this time next week.Back after a very long break!0 -
Just had a yummy meatless roast, and remembered to take a frozen ham roll to work, but did buy a bag of crisps!!
Tomorrow I'm going to make up a vat of bean stew made with 3 or 4 cans of beans I have in stock, but will need to buy a can of tinned toms but will also use one of the passatas. This will be served with the sausages (which i'll cut up and put into the stew, so I get a good couple of portions for the freezer) and couscous.
I've also taken out a frozen cooked chicken breast and will chop up some tomatoes & cucumber - that will be lunch with a flask of soup!
Am very pleased how things are going so far..!0
