Do you reckon seeing how easy it is to eat for cheap might make you spend a bit less on food in future?
Yes!!! DefinetelyWe're actually eating healthier than we normally do and it's a fraction of the cost. I left home almost 4 years ago at 16 with no idea how to cook anything decent so ended up buying things to stick in the oven but i'm really enjoying learning to cook now

well done you for giving it a go i too had not a great repertoire of meals when I first married 48 years ago but we managed to survive and I still have the first cook book I bought from Woolworths called recipes for two and it cost me 2/6d (twelve and a half pence) if only there had been a site like this in those days I would not have blown up boiled eggs (yup I really did)you seem to be a sensible lass who has found the right place to find a little help. We have all been where you are dear with 'too much week left until the end of the week' but we survive and its a great lesson to know that you can get by only quite a small amount without too much effort. There are families in the third world that live on a dollar a day and survive .but you are doing excellently .Take a <hug.> and a big pat on the back from one little old lady in Kent0

It's so lovely to be joined by all you lovely ladies.
Does anyone have anything they are really not sure what they are going to do with, that other ladies could offer some ideas?
I'll go first, I have stacks of sugar free elderflower cordial that I made this summer. Unfortunately, with the summer being so cold, I didn't need a 'refreshing drink'Now I'm stuck with loads... do you think it'd make a nice hot drink? OH is very sceptic about this... any help would be much appreciated!
It will keep in the freezer, I've still got an odd bottle left from last year but made more this as it is nice just used instead of squashMy self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -

I swear by the Sainsburys Basics instant mash - it is only 18p and makes loads and it tastes really nice - not at all powdery like smash does (IMO). I use it for all kinds of things but it makes a lovely cheese "pie" layered with grated cheese and topped with cheesy breadcrumbs (or cheese and crushed tuc/ritz) and then baked in the oven for about half an hour - really nice with beans. I also use it to thicken soups and stews too, and to make hm fishcakes.Jane
