  • Thank you everyone for your replies. LO had roast of the day, mash and veg at school followed by cake and custard so he didn't have much of an appetite so we all had beans on toast tonight!

Going to get meal planning for the next week. Thanks for your suggestions :) Will keep you's all posted!!
  • W- sausage casserole, mash and sliced carrots
    T- tuna pasta bake
F- sausage and bean bake with sliced potatoes on top
S- Mince round (mince pie) mash and beans / carrots
S- pasta and cheese sauce with crisps on top - need to try it! :)
M- ? not too sure yet

    potatoes - 97p
    tin tomatoes - 33p
ready brek - 1.50 (or cereal if on offer for less)
    smartprice bread - 30p
    cheese sauce - 41p
asda cheese - 2.00 (will buy the smallest block so could be cheaper)
    smartprice eggs - 1.45

    TOTAL - £6.96

And that's leaving tuna or egg sandwiches for OH and plenty of frubes and bananas for the little man to snack on after school!

Can't believe i would have went out and spent the usual £50-£60 on shopping this week if we weren't cut short

Hi vka1990, it takes practice to get on top of budget meal planning, I am sure many of your replies are from MSE'ers who have taken a wee while to hone their skills and you will get there too. Keep a notebook/diary with all options in it for breakfasts, lunches and dinners until you get into the way of things, that way you can menu plan from what is in your cupboards and know what you need to buy without having to buy any extra's. I list all my meals and then all ingredients needed, then score off whats in the cupboard and that leaves my necessity shopping for the week. Takes a wee while to get into it but saves a fortune in the long run,

Today i have put 4 loaves of bread in and have taken 7 sausages and some peas out of my freezer. There's actually a bit of space in the little freezer now so some progress must be being made.
  • Little change for my freezer today as only used eggs for omelette and a few curly fries for DD
Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!

I used yet more yellow-sticker crumpets today from my freezer :rotfl: There is just 1 packet left...considering I brought home a carrier bag full I'm shocked at how fast we've gotten through them! Oh well, its making room for me to actually put things in the correct places in there now instead of just shoved wherever I could find a space to fit it. :o Just need to find a use for loads of chopped (almost pureed in some cases) onions that isn't onion soup/tart and I will be able to clear a whole shelf :rotfl:

    You'll be fine vka 1990 :).

Were cut short (again) as well till next month, so i'm using what we already have in.
Its a matter of seeing it as a challenge, because if i don't i personally start despairing.

Looks like you have your week all sorted!!!
Let us know how you get on!

    good luck love!
  • Last night I made a pancake bake. Pancakes were leftover from the weekend. I filled them with spinach and a roasted butternut squash from the garden. Topped with a cheese sauce and breadcrumbs which went deliciously crispy :j

Will have to make more pancakes to do it again :)
