Try a microwave steamer if its just for 1 or 2 of you - it does potatoes in 10 mins and most veg in 5 mins or less (if you put hot water in the bottom) - something like this http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Microwise+Microwave+small+steamer/108646796,default,pd.html?cm_mmc=affiliates-_-google-_-feed-_-clearance
Dinner is in the oven - in the end, I decided not to faff around with boiling and just bunged everything in the oven. I'm roasting carrots, onions, and the end of the baby potatoes with a few cloves of garlic, olive oil and herbs and black pepper. I chucked them in the same oven dish as the chicken. It saves me having to keep an eye on a boiling pan, very lazy I know!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Thank you Paula, I'm going to borrow that one in case anyone else suggests I'm a lazy cook! Bet it won't taste as nice as his stuff though! Although it smells gorgeous and I'm getting hungry so I think I'll really enjoy it.:drool:Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

Hi All
Absolutely useless weekend for the Challenge. Ate out Friday, didn't have anything on Sat - went to a party instead; went to Wales yesterday!!!!
Can't do my big shop till tomorrow now!!!! Family obligation now taken priority! ggrrrrrr! (long story!)
Lamb Meatballs out of the freezer for tonights tea. Will be making a roast veg tagine (odd bits of carrot, parsnip, tomatoes, tinnned toms and leeks to be used) to go with it and cous cous - so now back on track this week.
Going to try to keep the Big Shop down to a minimum so got lots of room for Christmas goodies!Mortgage Free x 1 03.11.2012 - House rented out Feb 2016

Yesterday, we ate leftover party food from a 60s wedding anniversary and we went to oh parents for tea, today we had left over ham & pineapple pizza for dinner and I've used up 4 open packets of cheese end bits and left over pek (opened for pizza topping) to make cheese and ham wraps, for dessert the kids have used up the left over pineapples chunks (open for pizza topping).
I've used up a packet of jelly from the store cupboard, which made six portions for dd packed lunch - cheaper than paying for pots of them.
Trying to use up fridge stuff before doing the December big shop, so I think I will make a pasta dish, to use up peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes & a bit of veg. Then I will make a veg soup with the rest.
The only other contents of fridge really is eggs but oh goes through them so not adding them to use up.0 -
I don't help the case, do I? I bought a goose at Lidl today. Not because we're going to eat it! I just want to have one to eat sometime during the year when they aren't in Lidl and Aldi. Didn't get one last Christmas, so didn't have one when I wanted it. The goose will keep everything else cold when I decide to defrost the freezer. LOL!
I think it will have to come off January's food budget. But that's OK as it's for next year.
DS and DH having chilli from the freezer for tea. I'm going to make some mushroom risotto for me. This will use up some dried mushrooms, have masses of these and also the last of the fresh ones and some parmesan as well.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Tonight used up some left over tortellini from Saturday with left over chicken from yesterday's roast, added a bit of cream and some parmesan and pepper and it was lovely and very quick.
The chicken carcass has been in the slow cooker all day so will strain the stock later and freeze some and make soup with the rest. The 2 legs have been frozen for a later date too.
Trouble is I am still adding to the freezer rather than clearing it - bought bag of carrots in Aldi for 29p so have cleaned and prepped all of them, some chopped, some grated and bagged and frozen and the rest of the parsnips we had yesterday with the roast have been treated the same way.0 -
Yesterday I couldnt be bothered to go shopping ( or do the ham ) so last night we had chorizo pizza bread withthe baton I bought on Sat, and I made a fine strudel using the apples and a handful of the ancient dried fruit soaked in a bit of tea. I added some of the depreciating stock of brown splenda and a teaspoon of cinamon. It looked a bit wet, so I felt ever-so-OS as I threw in a handful of breadcrumbs from the freezer to the mix and it worked instantly. Felt very OS :j
It was gorgeous!
We bought some food today I used the waitrose vouchers as I didnt go yesterday. I spent 80.00 and had a tenner off, so 70. There were a couple of chickens, bogof chorizo and a few bottles of wine. Also finally got around to buying some plain yog, some bananas, golden syrup that Ive needed for ages.
Tonight, I am using up the last of the filo pastry with one solo chicken breast, leek, mushrooms, some cream, red oninon and some roasted peppers that I did last week and froze. Im going to make some sort of chicken filo pie with it, and serve with jackets and carrot batons. Should be nice!
I figure that I can probably get away with not shopping for anything but veg now before Xmas - SHE SAYS!! :rotfl: I hope so as I can barely close the store cupboard doors! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
