Today, used out of freezer piece of coley and 2 salmon fillets. Made a fish pie using parsley also from freezer. Made a 3 person for today and a 2 person fish pie will go in the freezer for one day next week. Also used broccoli from the bottom of the fridge and manky sprouts.

Also made some banana and raisin muffins with dying bananas.

The fridge is starting to look quite bare!

I had chicken fried rice for dinner using up the last of the frozen rice, a cooked chicken leg and the end of a punnet of mushrooms. I made dessert with some frozen berries and tinned pears heated in the microwave with a stale flapjack crumbled over the top, served with Value custard. Not exactly a Masterchef menu but it was yummy. :D

There's now a bit of room in the freezer - enough to move things around at least! I've only 2 more weeks of living on a fiver and my stores so I've already started making my big shopping list for Christmas.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Hi there newbie here and I'm a big fan of storecupboard food... just cos the fridge never seems to stay full in my house!!

One of my faves is a tin of cannelini beans
    Tin tomatoes
Some indian spices (like chilli powder, tumeric, cumin powder, garam masala)
Chuck it all in a pan
Simmer for a bit and serve with some freshly cooked rice... lush!

  • Well...we had the meatballs last night - used up some veg out of the fridge too and a tin of tomatoes out of the cupboard and cous cous from stores.

Coq au vin tonight using up 5 stray drumsticks and a thigh I found at the bottom of the freezer, half a bottle of left over red wine and onions from stores, only had to buy some mushrooms (they really don't last long in our house!!)

Need to get down the veg mountain in the fridge (another delivery tonight!!!) Going to have to make some soup for a fundraiser week on sat so that could go in the empty freezer till then! Need to make a veg pasta sauce for same fundraiser - that could go the same way too....at least it will be out of the way on 12th Dec - ready for Christmas party nibbles!

Having friends for dinner on Saturday and determined to use a jar of roasted red and yello peppers and some sun dried tomatoes I've had in the cupboard for ages (as part of an anti-pasti starter), 2 part baked ciabattas will be used too. Frozen raspberries too to go with lemon cream dessert (from Economy Gastronomy Book).

Looking good to defrost freezers on Sunday - I think I will be suficiently at the bottom to sort them out. Its the fridge thats causing problems now - but it might just need a good tidy up!!!!

CCP - I'm glad I'm not the only one to submit to takeaway....thanks for the reassurance...

Thanks for the recipe, it sounds great.:T

I'll be having the remains of yesterday's chicken fried rice tonight and will take a piece of cod out of the freezer for tomorrow.

Can anyone think of a use for the juice from a tin of pears? I made a sort of crumble thing using the pears but the juice would have made it too soggy. I could just drink it I guess. I wonder what it would be like mixed with ginger ale - I have no idea why I bought the ginger ale and it will lose its fizz if it sits there much longer!

    Have a good day everyone!
