Store cupboard challenge

Oh dear! I went to Morrisons today, petrol, cash and wanted some corn crackers, but unfortunately seduced by a few things on the way round, either good offers or stuff that I don't get at Aldi, which has turned out to be my new corner shop! I got YS liver, 3 bottles of wine (they don't count on grocery budget, neither do the bin liners and dishwasher tabs.) They don't always have bacon scraps, but did today.
removed some milk from the freezer so that has made a little space. Pizza bases x 2 will come out tomorrow, tomato sauce hm, left over fishcakes for me also from freezer."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Morning all!
Well, my storecupboard using and meal planning went a bit awry yesterday - it's not possible to make turkey pie if both the turkey and the pastry are still sitting in the freezer.:o I ended up having macaroni cheese instead - very nice, but no help whatsoever in claering out the cupboards, particularly as I had to buy more pasta to make it. :wall:
Lunch today is a Mystery Pasty: it's either beef and veg or cheese and onion - I won't know which until it's defrosted and I can take its lid off and have a look. I really must get the hang of labelling of things!Back after a very long break!0 -

Love it :rotfl:We have all been there haven't we?
I was full of good intentions to make sausage rolls until I discovered that the pastry in the freezer was shortcrust not puff........so that will have to wait for another day, not going shopping till Saturday this week so will buy some then.
Did do the veggie & chickpea curry and it tastes lovely, will have for my tea tonight and lunch tomorrow as having half day off work. That should mean maybe only a couple of portions to freeze0 -

That reminds me of visiting friends for Sunday lunch earlier this year - a lovely, golden pie was presented for dessert with the words "it's either blackberry and apple or steak and kidney. Would you like cream or custard with it?" :rotfl:
(It was blackberry and apple, thank goodness!)
You can make sausage rolls with shortcrust pastry, BTW - my grandmother makes hers this way and they're just :drool::drool::drool:. She always brings me a big tub of them for Christmas and they've never yet lasted past Boxing Day!Back after a very long break!0 -
Any ideas for what I can do with a half cucumber that's on its last legs? I'd like something warm or hot rather than cold & salady. Cooking for one. I also have mostly small amounts of new potatoes, apples, parmesan, *spring onions, celery, onion, *cottage cheese, *ricotta, *sweet potato, fresh root ginger, *broccoli, mushrooms + eggs, flour, lentils, pasta, etc. -- asterisked items also need using up but not quite so desperately.
Edited to add: actually no cottage cheese - forgot that I used that up yesterday0 -
Shove it in some soup. It'll be fine. You won't even notice it when it's whizzed."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Agree about shortcrust for sausage rolls CCP but OH prefers puff
Got 5 lemons that need using up so planning to make tonight the Lemon Cream with Berry Compote from Economy Gastronomy which will also use some of the frozen berries - we love it and it's so easy to make.
Did, however have to buy cream so that's the NSD out the window
Half price sea bass out of freezer for OH with....oh something...don't know what, will see what he wants.
Have a good day everyone.0 -
I will be using up the last of the dried noodles that have been sat in my cupboard for far too long tonight. I used a massive kilner jar to store all the broken bits of noodles and it takes up so much room! I am trying to clear a whole shelf in my cupboards for my Christmas stores.
I think Dh will be having chicken in Tariyaki (Not sure if thats spelt correct) sauce for tea and I will have either Chicken noodle soup or chicken stir fry.Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set

Managed to use up my jar of beef and ale sauce last nite with some braisingsteak done in the slow cooker. Also some gluten free bread crumbs on fish cakes for DS. They were both a couple of months out of date but tasted fine. I also noticed a satay dipping sauce which is 6 months out of date and was wondering whether that would be ok? It says to use with satay prawns or chicken but surely just plain prawns or chicken dipped in the sauce would give it a satay taste wouldn't it?Grocery aim £450pm.Spent £519 August, £584 July, £544 June, £541 May, £549 April, £517 March, £517 Feb,£555 Jan, £573 Dec, £465Nov, £561Oct, £493Sept, £426Aug,£496 Jul, £528Jun, £506May,£498April, £558 March, £500Feb, £500 Jan, £490 Dec, £555 Nov,£566 Oct, £505Sept, £450Aug, £410 July, £437 June, £491 May, £471 April, £440 March, £552Feb, £462Jan0

I had a terrible day for using food up yesterday - didn't eat - was feeling ill so went to bed early. However, OH did use up the remaining eggs in the fridge as he had an omlette.
Useless tonight too as we are both going out (seperately).
However, tomorrow is the dinner party and will be using some stuff out of the stores.
Intend to defrost freezers on Sunday.Mortgage Free x 1 03.11.2012 - House rented out Feb 2016
