This week I haven’t used up much of my stores, just HM ready meal portions & I still have 31 of these in the freezers! Haven’t spend anything on groceries since last Monday either. :D

I have taken a whole chicken out of the freezer for tomorrow’s dinner & will then do chicken fajitas on Monday – there are wraps in the freezer. May also get a pie out of the chicken; I have cans of sweetcorn & condensed soup & pastry in the freezer.

I read on here that someone has done a gammon joint in the slow cooker and used the ham for sandwiches.
I bought a small basics one yesterday to try out. Would anyone know how long I can put this in the SC for- does it need stock or anytihng or can i just put it straight in :) anyone know! I must have glimsped this idea- and ran with it thinking - thats sounds simple! I know you can also go Ham in Coke- we always have a stash of coke in, if that helps any?:confused:

Well the idea of going to Oxford st is really not appealing its pouring down here :( I fear we just have to go though, we need food and I really want this food processor :o

We do need meat & veg as we used stores last week, and only have onions, carrots, pots, and awinter squash. As the weather is so foul I fancy a nice roast chicken dinner tonight with all the trimmings. Should only have to buy a chicken for this, thenof course will have the remants for the week.

I might then attempt (!!) mini apple strudels using the apples, some dried fruit, the remarkably useful brown sugar splenda, and some cream.....?!?!?! Will this work- Im just thinking of throwing some stuff together :D

Have taken the teacakes out of the freezer for a breakfast once theyve defrosted.

Hi Lynz, ham in coke needs full sugar coke. I usually buy the value stuff because you need to cover it. You could instead disolve some of the universal brown splenda to your cooking liquid and get a similar effect rather than waste lots of expensive coke? I have only done it in a pan so beyond that I can't help.

NualaBuala - If it was me I would do the potatoes on their own - they need 20 minutes or so and they make the water starchy. Then the carrots in their own pan for a few minutes till they are nearly cooked then add the peas and bring it back up to simmering for a few more minutes. Otherwise cut the carrots into dice and put them in at the same time.

Thanks Hex. Im trawling through the rest of the threads on hams-staggered to find me asking the exact same question 2 years ago :wall: IIRC I made one and it was crap!

Must persevere. I think the brown sugar and coke zero combo will deifnately work. How long do you do yours for hex in a pan? What size do you do?

Boiling gammon is 20 minutes per 450g plus 20 minutes. If you want to glaze it and roast it then boil for half the time, cut off most of the fat, score it then add your glaze (treacle, mustard powder and splenda maybe?) then roast for the remaining time at 180.

The big ones are on offer in makro next week an I am very tempted to buy a big one for boxing day onwards given that I found out last night we have both teenage stepsons for that week which is good but wrecks my food plans.

Lynz - the coke! The gammon takes flavour from whatever you cook it in but it also makes gammon stock along the way so really coke is a waste from a stretching point of view. Veg stock would work instead of coke, as does plain water with a few bay leaves and cloves in. I use water with some brown sugar in sometimes which sweetens and gives the same caramel flavour as coke. Do not add any salt - it is already salted. Whatever you use needs to cover the gammon.
