ok.. tonight i have the dregs of the ham hock, a bit of dried up chorizo, some peppers, tomatoes, soggy celery, a mango that is about to walk out of the fridge on its own (yes yes.. still got it), pasta, cheese, eggs (i got OH to get them so i wouldnt be tempted to overspend), frozen peas, salad...
I'm off out tonight (yey!) and LO is staying with my mum so im going to sugget to OH that he makes himself a 'homlette' with the ham and chorizo and peppers and has a salad (hes ok at cooking but if i dont suggest what to cook he ends up with pot noodle)
i think i might just eat the mango tonight.. or eat what i want of it then freeze the remainder...0 -
Hopefully the joiner will finish my kitchen today, so I can finally get in it and cook:j:j:jGonna do a chick pea n spinach curry tonight and take some round for mum who's been poorly:o
This weekend will be spent putting all my kitchen stuff back, and doing a rough inventory of the cupboards before we go off to Goa next week for a fortnight:j:j:jI'm determined to spend as little as I can on food this xmas:D:DWe're having an Indian banquet, as nobody wants a trad Xmas dinner;)"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

I wasn't expecting to remove anything more from the freezer for today, already got tea defrosting, but a late decision to make chicken, leek potato soup means that I have taken a litre of chicken stock (with bits!) out of the freezer. Have frozen the other super6 pack of leeks, they're only 39p! Well trimmed too,."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Well, did the Chutney Marathon last night. 22 jars made (just about had enough smallish jars). Autumn Plum, Scottish Recipe Rhubarb, Spicy Carrot & Garlic and Tomato Chilli Jam! mmm I like all of them but the carrot and the the tomato ones are particularly good (if I do say so myself!).
However, when I got the Rhubarb out I discovered that I have another 2-2 1/2lb in the freezer over and above what I needed for the chutney - looks like some crumbles & or pies need to be made.
Freezer is looking a little more empty now...did buy a 3 bird roast last night and its sitting on its ownsome in the freezer upstairs...
Eating out tonight, so no more progress today, but its getting there.Mortgage Free x 1 03.11.2012 - House rented out Feb 2016

I'll post my current favourites a bit later...they are: Spicy Carrot (a Sophie Grigson recipe); Tomato Chilli Jam (taken from a dip recipe from BBC Good Food Site) and Sweetcorn Mustard Pickle (sounds funny, but it tastes just like shop bought only more yummy - great with burgers in the summer). This is one of my mum's recipes that she adapted from the ingredients on the back of the jar of the shop bought stuff!:DMortgage Free x 1 03.11.2012 - House rented out Feb 2016

The pork, orange and star anise was nice, but missing something.
Sausages and tomato sauce out of freezer for sausage pasta bake tonight. Might make more tomato sauce, too. Means the butternut squash in the fridge will be used and some of the tinned tomato mountain, but I will put more tomato sauce back in the freezer! Still we need it in and it is used regularly so shouldn't delay defrosting. ( honestly the mistakes I make when I type it is like being 7 gain and not being able to write as fast as my brain works, or I am just plain careless!!)0 -
Well, didn't mean to get those 2 packs of 6 Bratwurst from Aldi! They were reduced to 99p each, so would have been rude to leave them! Quite like them and not cheap as a rule. As to what to do with them, well, thought about this. I am going to make a sort of sausage, beany, tomatoey hotpot type of thing. I have 2 bottles of sauce that came home from Germany with me once, one 'Mexico sauce' and the other Zigeuner (sort of tomatoes and peppers I think). One large 9p can of kidney beans from my first approved foods order and some frozen peppers. ONions already in the house. This is going to be good AND use some stuff up. As there will be quite a lot of it I might substitute it on one of my Christmas planned meals when the family is here...the half of the family that willl eat peppers. Or it might be just nice to have some 'ready' meals there. I know it means stuff will be going IN the freezer not OUT, but will be getting rid of those sauces that have been sitting there forever and the beans towards the end of their date as well.
DH has a bad cold, think I'm going to dose up on Vitamin C!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Looking good and DS has given his approval. Sooooooo into the pot went:-
12 bratwurst cut into slices and given a quick brown
3 good sized onions,
Garlic
1/2 bag frozen peppers
1 bottle 'mexico' sauce
1 bottle shashlik sauce
2 x 800g cans kidney beans
1 'normal' sized can sweetcorn,
1.5 cans of chopped tomatoes
smoked paprika
salt and pepper
chilli sauce.
Lots of portions (maybe about 12?) for not many pennies. But I will have to put some stuff in the freezer."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
