I made this with the remains of a jar of Thai paste (you can't get lemon grass or Thai shallots in rural East Yorks  ) and a bag of Tiger prawns. We had it with half a bag of wild rice, which was hanging about in the pantry :D

I am thinking about buying one of those elements- they are 7.00 on amazon and I have a voucher- yay me, so I could get it for free. Its an element that gets plugged into the cigarette lighter and you put it in a mug of water. Has anyone used these? I have to say im a bit concerned they look like a deah trap
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Rural East Yorks? Are you near enough to get Bradshaw flour from Driffield? The malted one is gorgeous. I get it when I visit Bro & SIL.

I like the pervy hugs. Flash Harry is a queen tribute. It's totally irrelevant to this thread.

I took some er ICE out of the freezer for my drink?:j

Well my stores are finally beginning to go down... :D:j I've already started my next shopping delivery list on Mysupermarket ready to book a delivery through Asda when there is one available for when I'm off work. ;) Unfortunately 19th December is already fully booked  Just hope I manage to catch a 21st or 22nd one before they fill up completely as well!

I liked the idea of turning the lasagne sheets into crisps..I may try that one as I haven't alot of chicken, not too sure about trying a fish lasagne and DD turns her nose up at Ratatoille/aubergine/courgettes  Don't think it would be very appealing made with cabbage & cauliflower :rotfl:

Today and the stores...I have been shopping and got fruit for the week. Last of the Aldi milk is 'off' on its last day, second week in a row this has happened. Their milk is cheap, but doesn't seem to last as long. This week I have taken the precaution of freezing some.

Maybe I will make some scones or something later. 3 dead bananas, so some possibilities there as well, maybe muffins? I'm almost certain dd left a part bag of bran cereal when she went to uni. Will have to find one of those websites where you type in what ingredients you have and see what turns up.

Lunch will be some of the chicken and leek soup from yesterday and dinner will be from the freezer. DH not that well, so will see what he fancies to eat before looking.

Well, I'm going to have to be really good on the storecupboard challenge for the next couple of days - I don't get paid until Monday and the money which was intended to go for my grocery shopping got spent at the French market yesterday instead. :o I did get some bargains, though - 3 stinky French cheeses for £5, 3 mini salamis / chorizos for £10, and a pair of hand-made, fairly-traded earrings for £5 (the last won't be too tasty, I know!).

Luckily I'd done my meal plan for this week using mostly stuff from my stores anyway, so I should be OK. The only thing I really must buy is some fabric conditioner (again, not for eating, obviously), and I've got enough cash for that.

Note to self - I must stay away from French markets in future! :o

BTW, purpleivy, your bratwurst and bean concoction sounds delish - I certainly wouldn't mind seeing that turn up on the Christmas meal plan! :)
Back after a very long break!
  • I bought a mammoth supermarket shop today - although not much in the way of groceries, but things that were needed ie: clothes, baby wipes (big box of 12 packs for £10 - bargain!), refilling the medicine cabinet after last weeks flu etc. etc.
But, after reading so much about them on here, I did buy my first ever....SLOW COOKER!!!! :D

I have promised DH I would clear at least one kitchen cupboard of useless gadgets and gizmos today (I have a Orange juicer that is enormous and has never been used, that takes up half a cupboard alone!)

It's not near, but we may pay it a visit on your recommendation ;)

I love my slow cooker, actually I have two because I love them so much! I have spent many a day reading through all the recipes on the Old Style thread.

If it wasn't a Morphy Richards one and you want some inspiration then there are some recipes here....
