We ended up eating cheese and biscuits left over from Sunday for tea tonight. It wasn't planned we just filled ourselves up with our after work snack! Not very healthy I know!:o

I was naughty and bought lunch today as I couldn't see anything to take into the office as I usually work from home. :o

Don't think these are particularly exciting but I'd add them to porridge or crumble. Or could they go in muffins?

I always have frozen mixed berries in the freezer and make summer pudding with them using finger trifle sponges and some sugar and sometimes a wee splash of liquer. Very easy.

    Hi

I wondered if you could all give me some advice.

I have 2 small freezers that are packed full and I need to make room for Christmas stuff in the next few weeks. I decided to start using things up from the freezer and only shop for the things I needed to make up the weekly meal plan.

Great idea! But.... I went shopping for my fruit and veg today and came back with more stuff for the freezer.

Good quality sausages were 25p per pack, chicken drumsticks 75p etc, etc. These aren't part of the meal plan but will go into the freezer for future meal plans.

However, I was trying to run the freezer down. :o

How do you deal with this - the absolute bargains you can't walk away from? Do you have a budget for bargains or do you just walk away from them? (the way I see it, when I want sausages there won't be any reduced and I hate paying full price). The 'problem' I have is my local Co-op has these sort of bargains every time I do my weekly shop as I go first thing in the morning (one of the benefits of being a SAHM!).

  • Sorry, don't know the answer....I try to only buy what I need even if there are some bargains...I agree, it is difficult -and they always have stuff when you haven't got room in the freezer!

Anyhoo, used the lamb shoulder last night and we are having frozen breaded fish from the freezer and flavoured cous cous from the store cupboard for tea tonight - OH is going out so a quick tea with little effort is in order!

Got to buy a few baking ingredients tomorrow as doing a few muffins and scones for a fundraiser on Saturday, but aim to use up what I have too - got some raspberries in the freezer and lemon juice and icing sugar in the cupboard so will be making one batch of raspberry muffins with lemon drizzle icing (only need to buy caster sugar, sultanas, 2 value bars of choc, 1/2lb butter and some value strawberry jam for the scones).

Fridgeraiders pasta and sauce tomorrow night to try and use up bits of veg in the fridge, but also a stray portion of spag bol in the freezer and some ham cubes - should be interesting.....

I had defrosted onion soup for lunch today and tea is scampi from the freezer, green beans and peas and a jacket potato

Another portion of frozen soup for lunch again tomorrow at work and another portion of frozen food from the freezer for tea - it's never ending!

Well I got a few bits used up from my stores: passata, lentils, quinoa, aging packet of oxtail soup, mince from the freezer and a little veggie mince. Also some flour, walnuts and black bananas - oh, and almost finished a tub of out of date Stork!

Made savoury mince and boulangerie potatoes - thanks to CCP for the idea! I think I used too big a dish for the spuds as my layers weren't even and a mandolin or JML thingy would have been handy for slicing the spuds. But it was tasty all the same.

Despite only having one egg I also made banana and walnut bread - I had the notion, the oven was on anyway and I was rooting around Delia's website so decided to give it a whirl. So much for not improvising! Well it wasn't really my idea - Delia advises to use a little milk if you need a wetter mixture so I did that. 2 of my bananas were very sloppy anyway. So far I've had a slice and it's moist and crumbly and scrummy. I wonder is the crumbliness cos of the lack of egg? It's more cakey than bready in texture but very nice - am quite pleased with my effort! :j
