The nice elmwood chickens are half price in the co-op again.

At least I only bought two :o.

Which means I have maybe ten in the freezer :o:o.

    Time for a meal plan.

You could always send one to me! :p I don't have any chicken in the freezer so, as I'm not buying meat at the moment, I haven't had any for ages. :(

(Of course I've got just about every other edible animal, but right now I fancy chicken. Typical, isn't it?)

There's a slight change of plan tonight - I've decided I don't really fancy prawns so I've got curry instead - meatball biriani (frozen from my last visit to my local takeaway - their portions are enormous - easily enough for two meals, and sometimes three!) and hm veg curry using frozen spinach and one of my tins of tomatoes.

That reminds me - I must post my meal plan for this week. Right, off to that thread...

    :D

I put the pork & apple juice in the slowcooker at lunchtime even though it smelt a little iffy (it was vacuum packed pork so I put it down to that). When I got home at 3.30ish the smell was awful :o I think I can safely say the pork is off so that will be binned along with the apple juice once its cooled down. Having southern chicken steaks & chips instead

Was very bad tonight and had a fish supper  but it was huge so fed both of us and was quick. Now relaxing with a large glass of red wine (what diet?)

Shopping done and kept, more or less, to budget. Did buy some basmati rice in Aldi @ £1.29 as almost out of rice and planning a big batch of chicken curry at the weekend.

Very tempted to go to the co-op for some of those elmwood chickens though...got one last time they were half price and it was lovely.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

 I havent started cooking yet but am endeavouring to make a store cupbaord feast of chicken & mushroom pies using up a packet of shortcrust mix been in cupb for ages, some stray chicken, a mushroom pasta sauce, some milk and mushrooms and dried oninons. With roast pots & carrots. I should get cracking really :o

I have also managed to use up 1/2 a tub of ben & jerry's frozen cheesecake yoghurt

Ok its on the go, not bad timing there, veg just parboiling :D

Just wanted to pop back to let you all know how really pleased I was with a store cupboard meal. This was made from sheer scraps- it was so lovely, im going to invest in some more mini tupperwares to ensure I have the right amount of "scraps" to make this again!

    Scrappy Beef Chilli Soup

    An onion
    Handful of dried onions
    One tin red kidney beans
Half tin of blackbeans ( from freezer)
Large fistful of mince ( frozen from when we made burgers)
    Beef stock cube
Mini tupperware of frozen rice ( another leftover I always freeze;) )
    Tin of chopped toms
threw in a few sun dried tomatoes chopped up cos I had them in
Chill powder/ Paprika/ Smidge of Chiptle -paste

(makes 4 generous servings, easily stretchable :D )

Method, fry the onions, tip in toms and spices, dried onions, red kidney beans and 2 mugfuls of stock. In 20 mins add the other beans and the mincem finely picked apart for fine shreds- Simmer it -add the rice 5 mins before serving. .drip on the dregs of a pot of sour cream - crumbled up ( ie the end of a bag) tortilla and a touch of grated cheese. :D

thuis was gorgeous and will deifnately make this again , OH loved it ;) Its a really chunky soup, with quite a kick :D ( or at least ours was) Need that weve got no central heating

Nuala - I'm glad you enjoyed your mince and boulangerie tatties, and your banana bread sounds good, too. I've got a bag of chopped bananas in the freezer for me to make cake with at some point - possibly not this weekend, though, as I could do with losing a bit of weight and having cake around isn't going to help matters!
Could do with losing weight myself and banana bread with lashings of butter isn't helping!:D Not to mention the second helpings of spuds!

Congratulations!:j I didn't know you were expecting! You'll have another mouth to help use up the contents of your store cupboards!:D
Your cooking plan sounds so impressive though I'm a little nervous at the thoughts of you being tinned-tomatoless!

Ellemm, if I sucumb to fish and chips tomorrow night it's all your fault (only joking!):D I've got a hankering now but luckily I'm already stuffed. Sounds like you're having a lovely relaxing start to the weekend - enjoy!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I know I feel so virtuous. :A This mushroom sauce has been lurking in the freezer for tonights pie, I wont buy it again but it was reduced

Im hoping OH will take the hint to use up the frozen berries in American pancakes with some of the random nutmeg syrup and some Ben & jerry choc Ice cream I found space for the other day :rotfl:
