if you look in your storecupboard / fridge / freezer etc and still cant think what to make out of all those ingredients...
why not try this website, http://www.supercook.com/
i saw this on the gadget show
you put in what you have got and it will give you up to 2000 recipe suggestions only using what you have told them you have
could be worth a try if you have more stock cubes than inspiration!0 -
Does anyone think it is ok to freeze mashed swede and boiled cabbage? Made way too much! lol
http://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/recipes/show/23-bubble-and-squeak
I can see a weird bubble and squeak! These freeze well apparently and I agree about freezing the cabbage on it's own, maybe too watery, but maybe with all extra moisture squeezed out and made into these,0 -
DH and I have proudly finished a bottle of gin as part of the store cupboard challenge.
Oh it's a hard life using up our stores all right!I have used 2 potatoes and some cheese and pesto sauce for dinnerInstead I ended up with savoury mince and boulangerie potatoes (both from the freezer).
Zippychick, thanks to your encoragement I am going to try baking this week! I've done bits and pieces before but I am just not confident in my ability and have to follow a recipe - don't know enough to improvise.
I was going to do banana and walnut loaf as I have 2 blackening bananas and as well as a fresh bunch. But I only have one egg and I've a feeling I need more. Any suggestions?
Also, I have a Lidl bread mix - I wonder could I use it to make rolls rather than a loaf? I'd be doing it by hand, don't have a breadmaker.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

Bestest ever Banana Loaf and believe me I have tried a few (all for research!)
http://www.nibblous.com/recipe/825 I don't alter the temperature, but cook it in my fan oven at about 160 for about 1 to 1 hr 10 hour may need to be a bit warmer in a conventional oven.0 -

The recipe looks easy - not sure I have enough SR flour but plenty of plain - maybe I could add a little baking powder? Just checked and indeed, I have just one egg so maybe I need to wait till next week to do my baking.
I love this line in the recipe:
Mix together the two yellow sludges :rotfl:
I'd love a slice of banana bread right now! :drool:Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

I'll probably eat a couple of portions this week and freeze the rest in portions. How do you freeze boulangerie potatoes? Cos I really fancy that now you've put the idea in my head!
The ones I froze were leftovers, and I just shoved them in a plastic tub and put that in the freezer. I didn't know if it would work but I thought it was better than throwing them out. It did work, but I probably shouldn't have left them frozen as long as I did - they were a bit watery. My advice would be: go ahead and freeze them, just don't forget about them for 18 months!NualaBuala wrote: »Zippychick, thanks to your encoragement I am going to try baking this week! There's nothing wrong with following a recipe for baking -for most cakes there's certain ratios you have to get right or the recipe won't work, so you can't just improvise like you would with, say, a stew.
Enjoy your banana bread - when you eventually make it!Back after a very long break!0 -

Last night used up some bacon out of the fridge, tomato sauce out of the freezer and olives and pasta out of the cupboard and some slightly OOD mascapone cheese into the mix!
Leftovers for dinner today
Tonight is a tin of spaghetti and a sausage roll out of the freezer.
Fighting the temptation to fill the freezer space back up a little - no don't do it!!! Need to keep on creating space!
Thanks for the banana recipe - will give it a try as have 7 frozen bananas!
BTW - I made almond macaroons at the weekend and they were delish! As it was a nigella recipe the ratio of sugar was high, but the macaroons were small so a nice sweet little chewy biscuit! Yum! A good way of using up a bag of ground almonds and caster sugar and easy to halve the recipe for less.final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -

Well Im edging towards the end of the chicken breasts  We only have 2 left. I bought a lot on the ocado delivery as they were half price- 7 odd for 8, now they are over 11
Tonight its chicken burgers using up the egg and some obligatory breadcrumbs, some whoopsied rolls and a gem lettuce that needs to go pronto. Will make some HM wedges or oven chips with them.
Tomorrow if I can be organised enough im making a chilli beef soup using beef stock, a handful of frozen mince, some frozen black beans, chopped tomatoes some kidney beans, some chilli powder & chipotle paste and onions. this should make loads of servings so I hope OH likes it :beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
