I have an Asda shop coming tomorrow
I have ordered with the intention of using up whats still in the freezer/cupboardsI have kievs, southern fried chicken grills, diced beef, ice-creams (cones as treats for those nights DD and I curl up on the sofa to watch TV together, I'm thinking they'll last longer than a packet of choc chip cookies
), sliced mushrooms, spread, baked beans, noodles (6 packs of smartprice, but I can take them into work for lunch some days), chopped tomatoes (I have none
), cereal, chips, new potatoes (tin), pesto sauce, yoghurts, bread, cup-a-soups (packed lunch), pasta, drummers (treat for me and DD next Sunday
), cheese, bacon, Cranberry/orange juices, cordial, LL milk, toiletries/cleaning stuff & some on offer alcohol for me. For £76 I'm not complaining, as I should be able to just pop in on Tuesday night while DD is at Brownies and get some of our pro-biotic yoghurt drinks we have (SP ones of course - none currently in stock  ) and any reduced fruit they have. In theory I shouldn't need to buy ANYHING this month after that
I'll meal plan tomorrow night, right now I'm getting sorted for DD coming home!Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
I think as far as using up your tin of kidney beans, or your tin of mixed beans... I would use the one up that have the least date left
I make veggie chilli... but I tend to use veg, peppers, mushrooms, courgettes, sweetcorn, onions, and kidney beans.... Oh, and of course tinned tomatoes. If its a bit to liquidy, I add some dried soya mince to soak up the juice.
I have used lentils in my veggie chilli, when I haven't had any soya mince and it was fine too."You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Hi everyone. Rotten weather everywhere today it seems so no excuses for getting on with things at home;).
Have done well this weekend with lots of batch cooking yesterday and today a bit of baking to use up those ingredients which are threatening to jump out of the cupboard whenever I open the door
Carrot cake done and cooling, banana loaf in oven along with first of 2 bread & butter puddings made with bogof cinnamon & raisin bagels out of freezer - found recipe googling - hope it turns out ok.
Roast chicken ready to go in oven later and only need to do tatties and tea will be sorted.
Nothing else for it now but to get on with the cleaning :mad:0 -

That made me chuckle, we went to see Michael Mcintyre last week. He did a section about jars of herbs & spices left in the cupboard- so funny!!
I'm having a batch cooking section now, made 3 meals already, bread rising and cakes coming next!Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -

I did my shopping yesterday and spent a grand total of €4.20. I had carried over 82c to add to my fiver so I still have €1.62 in the kitty.
I got :- a half price funsize pack of Twirls for Halloween callers
- 1.8kg frozen peas (as I had none left - I'm not just randomly stocking up, I swear!)
- whoopsied rashers (only 20c)
- whoopsied 1L low fat organic milk (only 16c)
- Value gravy granules (never used any gravy granules before but thought they'd be handy)
I'm so pleased with my whoopsies as I have never had any bargains like this before!:j I stuck the milk in the freezer as it was use by yesterday. The rashers were also use by yesterday but they look they'll be fine for a while.
I have some baby spuds I want to use up and I fancy doing something along these lines: boil/parboil spuds, fry onion and chopped rashers. Add spuds to frying pan to get bacony oniony flavour. Put mix in oven dish with some grated cheese and stick in oven for a while to go nice and brown. Would that work do you think?
ITrying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

I've ended up with a huge stock of food that never see the light of the day, due to things being stuck behind more stuff. This is the problem of having a pantry!
So We've decided that for the next two months (=rest of the year), we shall not be buying dry food (pasta, rice, etc), tinned food and herbs & spices, in the hope of clearing out our pantry a bit. This is for two adults, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The one big issue is that I recently became gluten intolerant, so OH will be eating A LOT of pasta.
Things I can't eat (=OH's food)
Macaroni 1050g
Orzo 4000g
Tagliatelli 500g
Short spag 500g
Penne 1000g
Cous Cous 300g
Cous Cous lemon 300g
Egg noodles 5 blocks
Soumen 10 portions
Instant udon 1pack
Udon 900g
Thai noodles 6packs
Things I can eat
Basmati Rice 4000g
long grain rice 900g
Rissoto rice 300g
Quinoa 1000g
Express rice 2packs
G.Free Spag 1500g
G.Free Fusulli 1100g
Rice noodle 2port
Malloni 200g
Mung beans 2000g
Split mung bean 1000g
Brown lentils 500g
Chick peas 3tins
Tuna 3tins
I estimate that we have about 140 portions for OH and about 120 portions for myself, which should be plenty to keep us going till the new year, unless we succumb to cravings! The difficulty is of course that there are going to be a lot of cooking two different carbs, pasta for him, and rice for me.
We'll still be buying fruit & veg, dairy products, meat (but we don't eat much meat anyway, maybe once a week) and gluten free bread for me (OH bakes his own).
So join me for clearing out the pantry!0 -

I always use value kidney beans for chilli, so you should be fine. The only difference I've noticed from 'standard' beans is that you get more broken / mushy ones in the value tins, but they'll get all broken up in the chilli anyway so it doesn't really matter.
And your bacony / oniony / potatoey things sounds lovely - I'd just add a bit of ground black pepper to it. (But then I add black pepper to just about everything!)
candygirl - I missed the start of the veggie chilli conversation, but I never use soya mince in mine - I just throw in a few handfuls of red lentils at the same time the liquid (stock / tomatoes) goes in, and it always turns out beautifully - nicer than meat chilli, actually (and I don't often say that about veggie meals - I'm a hopelessly devoted carnivore!)
Back after a very long break!0 -
I know exactly how you feel - I'm doing much the same thing with my freezer at the moment, as I was starting to have trouble closing the door!
Come and have a look at the Storecupboard Challenge thread - there's a load of us trying to empty out freezers / cupboards at the moment, and there are some really good ideas for using up what you've got, as well as moral support when you get tempted to buy something else instead of using what you've already got (well, that's what I keep doing, anyway!)
