I am going to spend Sunday stocking the freezer with HM goodies. This is my plan:

Me too, as I have made some space in the freezer this week, need to do some cooking and fill it up again, as I like to come in from work and not have to cook from scratch too often.

Planning batches of mince, pork casserole, chicken curry and some puddings and cakes.

Good luck with the job XSpender

Hooray - the site's back up!:j I was having withdrawal symptoms!

I've just been catching up and you lot are so much more organised with your freezers than I am. You'd be horrified to see bread, fish, veg all stuffed into the same freezer drawer! But since I went through my cupboards, they're much better. All the tinned tomatoes are keeping each company in a nice neat row.:D I'm not quite up to your standard zippychick, but you've inspired me a bit - I like the sound of all your pegs pointing the same way.:rotfl:

    :hello: Hello!

    Well it's thursday night and I have just 25p left from £15 budget! ...

Roll on Sunday and another £15 to play with!:j
At least you don't have to last long! I can't believe I've actually carried forward 82c to next weeks allowance so I'll have a whole €5.82 to play with - woohoo!
You've done great this week though. Great idea to keep track of what you're using up.

I'm so sorry to hear that *hugs*. I'll have everything crossed for you. I really admire your productive way of coping. I think I'd have launched myself into the nearest biscuit tin!

I haven't heard of runners pie - I take it you haven't chopped up bits of Seb Coe and Paula Radcliffe, added a tin of toms and topped with a bit of shortcrust?:D

I used up one of my tins of waterchestnuts, some of my frozen mixed veg, mushrooms and chinese noodles to make a lovely chow mein for dinner. I really enjoyed it, haven't had stir fry in ages. There were soya beans in the frozen veg mix and I hadn't had them before - really nice and will definitely get them again.

Tomorrow I think I'll do a veggie chilli with the frozen veggie mince and some beans. I've a tin of kidney and a tin of mixed beans - any idea which would be better? I'm also wondering if I should add lentils to bulk it out? I've never made it before - would that be ok do you think? I'll put a bit of carrot and celery in it just because I like them. Oh, and I found a bit of dark choc lurking in the bottom of the fridge - I might grate a bit in cos I've heard it's nice. If it lasts that long!:rotfl:
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I just came across giggly pig at a farmers market recently. Lovely stuff.

Never seen the faggots, but the bacon and sausages....... yummy. I loved the slip they used to put in the bag saying these were from rare-breed pigs. Couldn't help thinking they wouldn't be so rare if you didn't turn them into sausages and bacon :rotfl::rotfl: Have you read the history of the company founder? Lovely that she turned her life around so successfully :T

  • I have a big chest freezer,Nuala, so no segregated drawers here. Ido have a smaller freezer inside with 21/2 drawers, I try and keep non cooked and cooked seperate, but DH always messes and just chucks stuff in!

I think as far as using up your tin of kidney beans, or your tin of mixed beans... I would use the one up that have the least date left ;)

I make veggie chilli... but I tend to use veg, peppers, mushrooms, courgettes, sweetcorn, onions, and kidney beans.... Oh, and of course tinned tomatoes ;). If its a bit to liquidy, I add some dried soya mince to soak up the juice.
I have used lentils in my veggie chilli, when I haven't had any soya mince and it was fine too.

    :)
  • Antone got any suggestions what I can do with my bags of stewed apple that are lurking in the freezer. Apart from the obvious that springs to mind, pie or crumble I'm lacking inspiration!

Apple sponge (Eve's pudding)? It's my favourite and always the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions stewed apple! (Hmm. I've got some cooking apples in the kitchen at the moment, so I might do precisely that with them.)

I think you can also use stewed apple as a basis for cakes - I seem to remember making spiced apple muffins that way once - but it was some time ago and I can't remember the details. That's not very helpful, is it? :o

Over the past few days, I have used:
    • a ready-made pepperoni pizza for dinner last night (it was meant to be savoury mince but I forgot to take the mince out of the freezer before I went out )
    • one pack of lamb mince (for the savoury mince which will now be for dinner tonight instead)
    • one block of ham stock, for making soup today
    • a pack of bacon
    • the last scrapings of a jar of peanut butter
    • one tin of tuna
    • one tin of baked beans
All except the last three were from the freezer, and I can now see the shelves in places. :o:)
Back after a very long break!
