Two rather frost burnt corn cobs removed from the freezer today (and six more to go). If the freezer hadn't been so crammed I might have found them earlier while they were still looking edible. My punishment is now to eat them regardless of their sorry state.:(0

Why not put them in the slow cooker as an ingredient in chilli con carne? I would think that you could either let them thaw a bit and cut the kernels off, or else cook them first and cut the corn off just before you serve it. If it cooks for a few hours, by the time you're ready to eat it the corn would have largely disintegrated anyhow, so you wouldn't notice the unpleasant texture.0 -
Yes you guessed it not only is my freezer full again (whoops!) but so are my cupboards! Yikes! So my challenge is this weekend to do a full inventory of what I have managed to hoard yet again! And then use as much of it up as possible! Added bonus being that it will obviously save some money LOL
At the moment we go through a LOT of milk (I say we... it's me...) so there is no "no spend" weeks and then there is loads of fruit (apples in particular are my current favourite... blooming pregnancy! LOL)
So - tomorrow I will list my freezer contents and if energy lasts then I'll list the cupboards stuff too

Hello Mrs Tine
I would love to join you on this challenge. Overstocking is one of my biggest downfalls. I joined the GC for Jan with the intention of sticking to it. I haven't gone over my budget yet I cannot stop buying bloomin' food.
I did a meal plan and estimated between 14-21 meals and yet I have been shopping twice this week. This means I probably have close to a month's worth of meals
I need a kick up the backside to stop me and use everything up!!!
This weekend I will do an inventory of everything I have and take it from there. Any ideas will be very gratefully received
Eg how do I use bousin cheese up I have 2 packs one slghtly OOD. I am wheat intolerant FYI.final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -

Hi girls - can I join in too? (Sorry - are we all girls?! -shouldn't assume!)
I keep making lists (runs in the family!) of what's in cupboards/freezers etc., but somehow never get to the bottom of them. When I shop I end up with more past, t/tomatoes, whatever's on offer.... instead of REALLY doing a stocktake & using up stuff! :rotfl:
I still have tons of brambles & rosehips in the freezer, some are ancient but should still make puds. Lots of bits or part packs of things frozen or dried, a dozen chicken breast fillets mum gave me that she won't use! That's at least 3 main meals for us all.
Off to start stocktake - may take until tomorrow!

I found last time when I did a freezer inventory I was shocked! I only have a fridge freezer so it's not like it's huge!
Mainly mine contains meat as when I go to the butchers I tend to stock up - then I forget what I have and stock up again... I've done my meal plan for the next week - based on what I already know I have and in the case of the lamb and pork I am willing to buy because DH has asked for pork chops and lamb this week - I don't cook either very often! So because he's being VERY good an cleaning the oven for me (as I can't use the oven cleaner - chemicals and pregnancy are a no no apparently) I have told him he can have it :rotfl:
Tonight we had frankfurters and potato left overs with some onions... think of it as a danish version of corned beef and bubble and squeakCheap and cheerful but DH loves it
(ok I'm lucky - he'll eat nearly anything I serve him apart from mushrooms lol)
Do your inventories and you'll be amazed what ideas we can come up with!
I'm defrosting 4 chicken breasts in the fridge for tomorrow - I have some chicken tikka masala sauces that were 1/2 price so using them up and might do all 4 chicken breasts and freeze the left overs (couldn't cook only half as they got frozen together and are like a brick!)DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Boursin is lovely added to risotto. Fry off some chopped onion, add risotto rice, gradually add the stock until the rice is cooked then stir through a generous spoon of boursin. Nice with butternut squash added too.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0
