  • It's easy to make room for a slow cooker with a bit of shuffling around. I made room for my 6.5L crockpot and it has pride of place by the toaster. The £10 would be a good place to start but there are also some cracking deals on Amazon. You're just cooking for two of you right? In which case the 3.5L one will be okay. Families often need something bigger.

  • yeah just the two. yeah i have an incredibly small kitchen though. not much surface space. will have to move some of the wedding stuff from my shelves and put it up there. only problem is, i might not use it then.

hey i had my tea ready for when i got home today, he'd made it for me. it was a healthy living ready meal but it did mean a lot cuz it'd been a rubbish day at work. Only for me to take it out the microwave and spill half the contents out of it. :-( wasn't happy.

Worked till 10pm the other night, and he made me my tea that night too. i think i'm a lucky lady this week

Instead of doing my own meal plan (which always seem to be quite boring!) I thought I'd set a challenge! Below I have listed what I have in my cupboard/freezer. I have 3 children who although not fussy, don't eat spicy food. Anyone fancy a go at doing me a meal plan for Monday - Sunday?

(Hope this isn't against any rules, and really, I'm not being lazy, just want some fresh ideas!!)

So, there's 1 adult and 3 children - they have school dinners so meals don't have to be massive. Also, I have a budget of £25 to buy meat/veg.

    MY LIST

    2 x tins baked beans
1 x jar chilli sauce (very mild!)
    4 x tuna tins
    5 x sausages
Lots of cheese! Some edam, some cheddar.
Lots of lentils (but they won't eat lentil soup!)
    1 pack bacon
    Pack of frozen sweetcorn
    Half pack of frozen peas
    Pack frozen chips
    Ciabatta bread
4 x portions of frozen spag bol (so that's one easy meal!!)

I have general stuff in the cupboards but no eggs. Have pasta, rice, spaghetti and a pasta sauce.

Will be great to get some fresh ideas. (Oh, and sorry to make it more difficult but I work full days on Tues/Weds/Thurs so these days it has to be very easy!!)

    Ok... here is a start :D ....
    1. Spag bol -obviously
    2. Tuna/sweetcorn pasta bake
    3. boston beans -using the sausages cut up , 1 tin beans, the chilli sauce -you could do it with rice or with bread/jackets,-can be made the night before and warmed up after work
    4. ciabbatta pizzas using cheese, tom puree veggies
    5. jackets with bacon n cheese served with beans -you could do the jackets and stuff them with bacon/cheese the day befroe and re-heat after work
Well that would use some of what you have in up

  • The surprise of last week was dahl. There are some lovely recipes somewhere on the OS bit but we just cooked the lentils as the packet directed and meanwhile, chopped a couple of onions into rings and fried them in 2 tablespoons of oil. Then, when they were brown, we added 1/2 tsp each of chilli, turmeric, coriander and cumin. Stir in 1 tablespoon tomato puree and serve over the dahl, on top of basmati rice. Everyone liked it.
  • how about...
    1. baked bean chilli and rice
    2. jacket potato with either tuna+sweetcorn or boston baked beans (using beans and bacon)
    3. tuna pasta bake
    4. sausage jambalaya (sausages, chopped tomatoes, onion, red pepper, peas, sweetcorn and rice)
    5. cheats moussaka (layer the bolognaise with parboiled sliced potatoes and top with a cheese sauce)
    6. lentil bolognaise (lentils, onion, red pepper, tom puree, chopped toms)
    7. cheesy ciabbatta pizzas
    :A
  • 1. Lasagne:- How about stretching 2 portions of spag bol with lentils and then making into a lasagne (or pasta layer bake) with a cheese sauce made from the cheddar?
2:-Potato bake - layers of sliced potato, onion and red lentils, season to taste, stock to about 3/4 depth of layers (an oxo cube is fine or something bit more tasty if you have it) bake moderate oven (160 -180) for a good hour with a lid, remove lid check spuds are soft, if so just pop back in for 15 mins without lid to brown top . Most of the water should be absorbed by the lentils, so it's kinda like a stock version of dauphinoise potatoes - not so fattening!! :)
    3. I was going to say toad in the hole with the sausages but then read the "No Eggs" part, so I second Mrs M's boston beans (which acutally sounds nicer anyway!!)

    4. I don't like tuna so can't help a lot with that, but I guess, jacket Spuds with tuna mayo, or tuna pasta bake.

    5. Yep I was going to say ciabatta pizzas, but I'd use some of the bacon on them too!

    6. Pasta in cheese and bacon sauce with sweetcorn and peas........ like a carbonara but with a few veg.

    7. stir fry anything that's left!! :)

Have you taken a look at the weekly Mealpland thread? There are hundreds of meal ideas there, and if you ask nicely :D people will be sure to share their recipes.

I'll add this to the existing Storecupbaord Challenge thread
