On the final stages of an application where you tick the terms and conditions box, isn't that where you actually consent to a credit check?
I didn't think they could credit check you until you reach the final stage. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Ohhhh. I'd have known that had I taken my time to read any of my applications before rushing in and applying. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

You must provide your NatWest account number and sort code within the application, be aged 18 or over and earning at least £10,000
Natwest do not class student loans etc as earnings. You must have a salary credit into you natwest account to qualify. Banks offer student credit cards for a reason ( Relaxed criteria )
As NID said the RBS system can credit check you at any stage of the application however I think it is likely that they didn't consult the CRA as you failed the pre-requisite.
TBH the natwest student credit card does offer good increases, or used to anyway. My friend had £1500 in his final year of uni.
It must have changed recently then, because the maximum limit nowadays is £500, and when I asked if they'd consider putting me up to that from the £350 they gave me they said no you keep what you start with, it's only the overdraft that goes up and that's the end of it - and I've never heard of anyones Student Credit Card limit with them going up. It says they can review your limit after 4 months, but I think that's a standard thing they forgot to take out, because a few of my mates tried to get cheeky increases the other month and were told noOhhhh. I'd have known that had I taken my time to read any of my applications before rushing in and applying.never-in-doubt wrote: »I use a 32" as a main PC / back-up tv in the spare room and whilst the novelty is good it soons becomes unbearable having to look at such a big screen all day! Imagine teletext etc up close for a sustained period of time
I used to have a 50" in my lounge area, downsized to 40" cos 50 was just too big - it looked daft in comparison to the room. I have to date had a 32", 40", 42", 50" LCD and I love my 40" Samsung best
You'll get used to a particular brand/size and then stick to it - big is not always best in my opinion, as I say, I downsized and love it.
Natwest score you on each page mate - so basically, when you go to apply there is a check box to confirm you've read the terms etc (plus look out for the padlock - how we use your information) and this tells you that they use live scoring so in your case, after you completed step 1 (personal details) they run a check and declined you based on that.
So for that to happen, it means you need to check your credit file or CIFAS or you simply fail their criteria based on previous accounts held within the group, for example. It is purely based on personal data and records held - it is nothing to do with affordability or credit commitments.
That much is obvious.
You need to look at your credit files and/or cifas/N Hunter - something exists that made them decline you prior to completion of an application - that is odd mate!
(If you done it after midnight then this would also do the same - only apply in office hours) - by that I mean their service goes down at like midnight and if you started the application at say 11.58 and it crossed into midnight when you clicked 'next' then you'd get declined as a system reject as they cannot score you in downtime.
They would have done a full search and this will show on both Equifax & Experian mate.
Wait until you get a letter or ring them today and speak to them and they may be able to tell you more. It could be nothing, for the same respect it could be serious.....
In fact, thinking about it maybe you're not eligible for the product applied for? Say for instance their systems show you as a student earning £5k and you apply for a bank account that requires £1000p/m paid in then at the end of page 1 when you click next, it would decline because it would have matched you to an existing account and your CRN (customer reference number) would show your salary does not meet the minimum requirements and thus decline you prior to actually allowing you to amend it on page 2 of the new application.
You should, by rights, always let your bank have the most recent details so it avoids unnecessary declines/appeals.
Hope all this makes sense and helps you get the account mate.
Hmmm, they declined me the page after I selected Student - Computer Science from the list, so they just hate students I guess. I didn't realise they checked as you went through, I was just seeing what the questions were and if I liked the look of them - if there weren't any "bad" questions I'd have gone for it, but there were bad questions (how many credit cards do you hold!) so I wasn't sure I would've applied anyway - looks like it made the choice for me!
As Natwest search Equifax I'll be told of any search soon (because of that alerting thing), so if nothing comes up for a few weeks (my last alert was about 6 days after an app I think) then it'll be a decline straight away. Wouldn't surprise me if it was on internal data given that they were using my old account, or on the fact I picked student so they saved their money and rejected on that. I doubt it's N Hunter, I put 10k on everything (and recently worked out its more like 11 but don't want to suddenly change before I get flagged up or something by them!)
Thanks anyway, will see what the letter says because they should confirm it soon0 -

Not great, Just split from the OH and am moving back to my old flat.
I was living there for 8yrs then changed my address to new house with OH a few months now am moving back so it will affect my credit rating again0 -
Zack - Natwest search Experian with a follow-up to equifax..... who told you they search equifax? This is their back-up supplier for additional data if Experian provides a 'null' report (i.e. something different to what you declared or what they already hold about you)

Sorry to hear that mate - better that it happened now though before you got a mortgage together! Sorry but you know what I mean......
No it won't mate - how long did you live with OH and have you applied for/changed the address already? You can get round this, if you want specifics then PM me as its not actually 'politically correct' to state this in public.2010 - year of the troll
