Happy new year :). I'm late but I've been at football all day.

Who issues the BHS Mastercard btw? I have never (before today) brought anything from BHS, but saw the advert at the till which said instant decision. Argos didn't say that back in September and said I'd hear in 7-10 days (decline.......), so if it's instant would I have more chance of getting it? Or can they still refer applications?

    BHS = Barclaycard mate (http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal-home/cards/partner-cards/index.html)

Think about Bhs MasterCard if you:

    • Want a credit card that rewards you every time you make a purchase
    • You are aged 18 or over
    • You are not a student
    • You haven’t missed payments on a credit card, loan or mortgage in the last 12 months
    • You have no history of bankruptcy or defaulted credit agreements
    • You haven’t had any County Court Judgements (CCJs) or Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs) in the past 5 years
    • You haven’t recently applied or been declined for the Bhs Mastercard

Thanks, googled it earlier to see if I could find more info on it and that came up. Barclaycard rejected me for Barclaycard Initial so I assume I'd have no chance anyway

Thanks, I noticed that earlier. That's absolutely pathetic. I can't see why all the "You are not a student" needs to be tagged to so much (or students rejected for not having "income" from a full-time job, which is the same thing).

If anything, I'd say I'm going to be better off now as a student, than when I get my first full time job (Computing is competitive and, although I'd love it (!), I can't see myself picking up any kind of massive salary on entry - and experience of others I know working with computers have the same experience - so that makes the outright declines for being a student even more ridiculous and frustrating

Whether a card gives instant decision or whether they take 3-5 years to process the application.... you've got the exact same chance of receiving that dreaded decline.

Try Tesco. They seem to like students, after appealing.

I thought the ones that are referred examine you more closely (because you are borderline in their initial credit scoring), and so that could then lead to a decline or acceptance (Capital One accepted me on referral for example) - if they have to make an instant decision, I thought maybe their credit scoring criteria would be relaxed, or those than just miss lower limit are accepted but with a low limit initially until they do a manual review (similar to JDW who accepted me with £125 then, apparently, reviewed it)

Thanks, Tesco is lined up for June, I got rejected from them a few months back but hadn't seen about appeals then so didn't appeal it and I've missed the deadline now

Some people say an automated decision could be more strict than a manual one. Theres always the possibility of humans overseeing negative information on your credit report or elsewhere, which would no doubt result in a decline if a computer was determining your fate.

I applied for an Argos store card, does anyone know what they are like, customer service, limits etc?

Also, they advised me 7-14 days for a decision, so I called them, and they said its pending, but she cannot see the decision, due to data protection, anyone else had the same 'problem'?

    Thanks

I have a Argos card and the customer service is good . I apply online and got a email the next day telling me that my application was accepted.

You will find out your credit limit when you get your card and there is interest free on the card for 3- 6 months depending on how much you spend.
