With Halifax you need to deposit £100 for the card to be issued. If you applied over the phone they would tell you if you would get an overdraft and what limit.
  • HBOS want £100 to release the card and chequebook - you can pay it and and then withdraw it 2 minutes later, it is needed to activate the account which releases the card etc

As for overdraft, ask in branch when you go in cos they can override the system for you - shhh, don't them I told you that!

oh i didn't know that, is that the same with Nationwide? i mean the building society people in general?

I concur - they are not illegal (as not criminal law) but they will be frowned upon by the banks regulatory body (FSA/FOS/OFT etc) :D

I just noticed HSBC has made an enquiry on Experian credit file....is this a hard search or a soft search not viewed by lenders?

    It doesn't say....not with Experian.

It just have a list of searches in order like this

    Entry number P1

    Entry number P2

    Entry number P3

    Application type: Enquiry

I guess that is a hard search? I spoke to Experian and they said it is a search type seen by lenders.

If this is true, i will have to write another letter to get that removed as well. I think it comes from the account review i requested on my account. The person who did the account review did not tell me if they are going to conduct a hard credit search.
