kerryberryboo wrote: »I've a question - although not completely relating to sub prime credit cards.:p
If I wanted an overdraft facility and my current bank account won't allow me to have one on my account - can I open an account with BOS/Halifax who would let me? Or would this be another decline and search on my credit file?:eek:
Not really happy with the clydesdale bank - got a dual function card but no overdraft, been with them for 6 years, before that it was the Lloyds TSB who were worse!
Just looking for a bit of info and advice.
Off to listen to some Gaga! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
If they accept you they may give you an overdraft (Halifax do pre-approved) but some may search you again for one when you request it (that's why people say it's best to get a current account and wait 6 months (and use the account) before requesting - that way they use an internal history instead/as well). If you get a basic account (that won't be credit scored) you can't have an overdraft. Sucks...Natpest have given me one (but decided they don't want to put it up!) but Halifax won't give me anything!
Overdrafts are really bad for your file by the way. I use mine for betting and my file is going to be trashed because of it.... I'm hoping the appeals process might save me.... but I can no longer say I've got 4k in an ISA or whatever, because the interest on that was shocking so I took it out!0 -

they will credit check you mate, doesn't mean it will be a decline UNLESS you have 'adverse' data.

They'll search you when you try to open a current account, so decline or not depends how good your file is at the moment.

Now it says thank you, gives me a sort code and account number, asks me to register for online services, then says it will send me a password manually within next few days.
What does this mean? Have I got an account with overdraft with them????:o
Can it really be this simple!?!?!?
My credit file is not perfect but it's alright, one old default sitting there on it. Lots of green 0 recently.0 -
