There's one service Eclipse offer that is actually pretty good!

I was there when it launched and it's a reliable, comprehensive service

    http://www.eclipse.net.uk/ecommerce/

Don't get broadband from them though... leaves a lot to be desired ;)

Have you used this site before. looks like exactly what am looking for :)

You realise you will need a merchant account, these guys are an e-commerce website (like sitebuilder) but they do not offer the payment gateway - if you wanted that then surely paypal integrated into your existing site is easier?
Moneybookers, Saferpay, RBS WorldPay, HSBC and Sage Pay are the principal payment providers at your disposal when you set up your Eclipse eStore. They offer a fast and secure way for customers to pay online via all major debit and credit cards and enjoy a great trust among customers due to their reputation for online security.
In order to start taking payments through these online payment gateways you must open a fee-based merchant’s account with the payment provider prior to use.
Customers do not need a special customer account for each individual payment provider. They simply need to enter their credit card information to pay for an order. Their credit card information will remain secure as it is submitted to the payment provider rather than you as a merchant, which shows your visitors that their transactions are secure.
The payment provider will then take full responsibility for verifying the card’s information, obtaining the necessary sum from the customer’s credit-card account, and transferring the sum into your merchant account.

Yeah so you can start off with PayPal and once the income picks up you can speak to RBS WorldPay; simples :o

It's best not to have all services under one roof anyway, otherwise you end up in a jack of all trades master of none scenario ;)

If you had a problem with World Pay or Pay Pal would you want to trust the problem getting resolved with an intermediary or jump on it yourself direct to the payment merchant? I know what I'd choose!

I was working for them when it launched and it was very successful - much more so than their broadband!

I'm just saying, they are simply an e-commerce website builder - they are no better than the free php sites you can download, or buy a £2 a year linux package and upload direct using MySQL.... what i'm getting at is why pay a monthly premium for a website than you can make yourself for cheaper....

Just saying mate - I think it is very expensive myself, when I had my site I paid a designer to build and host it all and it cost less than £500 in total - plus streamline and worldpay etc are credit scored. World pay wanted a £5k deposit plus a 30 days term lapse (they keep my takings for 30 days in case of chargeback) but in the end streamline done it after my appealing.....

Point is, a site is useless without a payment gateway, paypal is very expensive in comparison and also, dealing with the merchant (i.e. the processing bank) is not always that easy - have you done it? I have and they are a nightmare when you have problems..... :p:p

No you have a fair point, it's marketed toward those that want to have someone on call to help them and do stuff for them... almost akin to hiring a site designer for you.

Those that prefer to go it alone take niddys advice.

Blergh... enough waffle I'm off to bed. The white zinfandel is all out now anyway

  • Hi,

Just a quick question, the other day my friend received a black color card from vanquis, their is no logo what so ever on the front of the card, just a plain black color card however it says the card the card has been issued by vanquis bank in small print on the back of the card.
On asking my friend he just said that it was a card he received from vanquis.

So was just wondering if any one can shed some light on this , as there is no mention what so ever of such a card on their website, and couldn't even find any thing after having googled it !!!

However the front of the card does not even have the diamond design !! It is just a plain black card without any thing written on the front of it !!!!

But on a second thought that could be it, as he was telling me he has a limit of 1000, and that is what it excatly says on the website (apr of 29.9 based on a typical credit limit of 1000 pounds)

Maybe the card is black but without the diamond design as advertised on website?
