  • What a silly reply.

Why should you have to supervise a child with what should be cold water?

And it is merely your opinion as to whether able bodied people should use a disabled toilet.

Plus the OP did not mention whether they are disabled or not, because, quite rightly, it has nothing whatseover to do with you, or this discussion.

You should supervise a young child around any sort of water accidents happen very quickly. Although I do agree the OP had a common sense bypass so using the disabled toilet would not be a problem.

  • I work for Mcdonalds and if we were informed that had happened in our restauraunt we would firstly close the toilet, and secondly record what had happened to your child in the accident book because although he/she was not injured as such, it was still an incident that needed to be documented.

With regards to who will listen, you should write to/email head office. The complaint will be registered against the store and the store manager will recieve details of your complaint and then is expected to do something about it (so I believe).

It's shocking that service varies like this from restaurant to restaurant. I hope this helps you.
  • Loos for the "disabled" are not for those with a disability. They are simply "easy access" loos to accommodate a wheelchair. There is no requirement for them to cater for the needs of those with a disability of any description and the provider does not owe a greater duty of care to those with a disability.

fair comment but there are alot of disabled people "wheelchair bound" that have other problems mental disability included

maby the provider dose not owe a greater duty of care to those with a disability, but it would be nice to think that they would like to ensure the saftey of a more vunrable customer, especialy considering they already knew the problem existed

I'm not even going to point out the fact that most disabled toilets house the baby change facilities too these days so they clearly are NOT intended purely for the use of disabled people, even if they have a disabled sign on the outside. If there is not a disabled person waiting or using the toilet, I see no reason why others shouldn't use the facilities if they have a bonafide reason. (like a small child who is in a pram which won't actually fit in a small cubicle, or a toddler who needs the loo meaning 2 in a small cubicle otherwise, dangerous and impractical)

I wouldn't DREAM of preventing a disabled person from using a "normal" toilet if they were able to access it....so why the positive discrimination?

And the parking arguement is ridiculous. Waiting 2 minutes potentially for a toilet is perfectly acceptable (person 2 would have to wait if the person using the cubicle was also disabled) waiting for a parking space to come free could take hours if they are misused. The 2 things do not equate.

OP, I'm appaled that McD knew about the problem and haven't responded. I'd have been inclined to speak to the manager in store and call health and safety if necessary. You could still contact the H&S exec I believe, via the website.

    Hope this helps

    someone else with sense
you are right the majority of disabled toilets in my area house the baby changing facilitys for the exact reasons that you have pointed out

why someone threw in the using of the disabled parking is beyond me
but some people love to go off subject:rolleyes:

thanks for the point of i can still contact the H&S exce i may just do that

I'll be very surprised if you get any joy from them. I recently took a young child to McDonalds. The restaurant was packed, but we managed to find a table. Unfortunately, we found ourselves sitting alongside a group of teenagers with mouths like sewers. I asked them if they would mind keeping their foul language to themselves, and was told to shut MY mouth. I told them that if they belonged to me, they'd have their mouths washed out with soap. I got the usual "we know our rights - we're bulletproof".

I complained to the management explaining that I objected to eating my meal in the company of guttersnipes. Lots of other customers appeared to be as annoyed as I was - but not surprisingly, none had the bottle to say anything. The management couldn't give a toss. Well, we left without eating the food we had paid for, and I won't ever go back. Shouldn't think they'll be bothered about losing my custom in the slightest, but it goes to show that $$$£££ is their only concern.

It's rotten that you ended up sitting next to these horrible kids. I'm not surprised they weren't priority for McD staff though if they were busy enough for you to have no choice of seat. You could have asked for the food to be put into a bag so you could take it away though. I hear MacDonalds do take away now ;)

why are so many people having a go at OP? oh yes - this is praise vent and warnings - or as some people seem to see it - have a go at OP thread!
I used to work as canvasser for ambulance chasers (for six months until i saw the light) and this sort of story isnt uncommon! why do premises still have the sort of taps that mix water??? surely a separate hot and cold tap (with the hot tap having a water temp regulator) isnt beyond them?
and just to confuse the issue even more - I once went to the loo in BHS - washed my hands (no prob there) then held them under dryer - and promptly got burned!! i had a large blister just under my thumb. I informed the lady in restaurant (where loos were located) she shrugged. being me i got annoyed and went to customer service and asked to speak to store manager. he arrived and was immediately apologetic and assured me that dryer unit would be unplugged. I still have a faint mark after 4 years - but wouldnt dream of sueing - even tho i could have!

Really? They do take-outs? Oh yes, that's why I took an excited little five year old into the town, so he could have his happy meal shoved into a bag, then go outside in the rain to eat it. There's no hope.........
