Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 21st November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS chums.
bday2.gif Hester! Hope you have a great day!
We are all glued out here. The kitchen looks like some semtex has gone off in a glitter factory and the dog has a pom pom stuck to her bum. :o
Redruby, Mioliere, Morwenna, Sunnygirl and lowesy - not sure I want to go to Haribos if there is a danger I might end up with a pompom on my bum.giggle.gif However if you are all nice to me I might even share my Thorntons hamper!
Anniemf - Hope your daughter got the results she wanted
Morwenna - Tris lives in Montana, they are pretty much snow covered from Nov to March/April but then get temps of over 100 degrees in the summer.
Purpleivy - that plum ginger pudding sounds fab.
Cranky - hope you and the house elf are doing Ok.
SunnyGirl - keeeeeeeeeeeep squeezing! And feel free to pm me again any time.
flutterby - glad you are enjoying the first aid course, it sounds like fun!
Bebee - It was a tough job but someone had to do it!! smile_tongue.gif
Janie - I still think you should visit the Dr, even if it has burst.
Anniestar and Halight and FairyE - how are you? We worry when you don't post.

I am glad my OH went for the M&S deal on Thursday, my friend went over yesterday and said that they were completely out of the chickens and the trifles AND the fruit juice and there were lots of fed up people haranguing the staff about it.

Lunch today will be coronation chicken sandwiches with sliced yellow peppers, using up the very end bits of the chicken, and dinner will be honey roast sausages and savoury rice.

I haven't had a pm from goingtobepoor, should I feel deprived? :rotfl:Oh and of course ANYONE can start the Daily Thread, it's just that I am often the first one up, but it's open to all and you can just copy the 'sticky' from the day before.

Did anyone see Diversity and the News Readers on Children in Need? Very very funny.

Tried to post and my post is too long :rotfl::rotfl: so this one is continued below...

A friend of mine has been given a bag of windfall apples and has given me some on the caveat that I have a go at making home made cider with her share. Because I like to cook she thinks this would be right up my street but it isn't something I have attempted before. However, I have found an easy recipe..
    • You cut the apples up in chunks and put them in a big bowl with some spring water (going to use Tescos value fizzy water).
    • Then you add a lemon cut into 4 and a piece of root ginger which I always have in the freezer anyway. Apparently you leave it for two weeks covered in a muslin cloth (KNEW they would come in handy sometime) and stir it every day.
    • Then you strain it and add 8oz of sugar per pint of liquid. Keep stirring for another four days and then bottle. She will have to find the bottles as I haven't a clue. Apparently it will be ready to drink in 3 months. She is coming round later today so I will let you know how we get on.
Anyway - to everyone who is poorly head%20cold.gif - get well soon. I hope your weekends all start well. With love and light to all.

Morning Diva and all who follow.

Up early as old dog was nagging to go out, she can't last as long lately and struggles to get through the night without a "toilet break" but she is back fast asleep now and I am wide awake:mad: OH has just got up to go to work now also.

Just caught up with yest thread as was shattered last night. Went Christmas shopping with DD2 for about 8 hours yest (her buying her presents for other people) and then had a marathon wrapping session so she is all organised now. The idea was that we go shopping so that I could buy her presents from us but never actually got round to that, so will have to do that another day:rolleyes: We had a Nandos meal when out (needed to rest our feet for a while!!!) and then just did OH a bacon, egg sausage etc fry up for his tea when we got in which he thinks is a huge treat as a tea:D

So need to catch up with the house today, wm and bm on at moment. We are going to my niece's 40th birthday party tonight (gosh that makes me feel old!) so might try have a rest later today so I last longer tonight;)

Diva the hamper sounds lovely, could just use a chocolate fix now:rotfl:
    Happy Birthday Hester:bdaycake:

Right off for another cuppa, will check back later.

    Have a good morning all

    Morning all
I expect I shall go back to bed soon, I'm a bit like Nic1lou2's dog, I also can't last the night without a toilet break & it's an age thing here too, lol.
Thanks for the Birthday wishes Diva & nic, much appreciated, I was given vouchers by my work colleagues & a beautiful bunch of flowers, they took great delight in telling me they had been reduced from £15 to £3, they know me so well, lol.
I also recieved £20 M & S vouchers from MIL, I shall save them all til the sales start.
Hubby bought me a Jack Vettriano print, 'Dance me to the end of love' it's beautiful, & he's a soppy old romantic.
I need to do some food shopping today, but there is still loads of meat in my freezer, so I will mainly be buying veg.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

:jHappy Birthday Hester - have a lovely day:j:beer:(definately deserve to go back to bed)

Well the weekend is here at last, seems to have been such a long week.
Shall be mainly ironing today - but first thing this morning need to pop into town as I forgot an important birthday on Monday - I have had a head full of cotton wool lately.

Will pop out, get the card in the post then get the ironing done. If have any energy left by the end of that will clean the bathrooms.

Dishwasher man came yesterday - found the problem but the part wasn't in stock so the earliest it will be fixed is next Friday  so will make sure keep on top of the washing up next week - that reminds need to pick up some Fairy whilst out.

Picked DD and her friend up from watching New Moon last night - they were raving about it seems it is much better than the first one.

Anyway I guess I should get on, have a great day.x

    Morning All

Went to see Disney's A Christmas Carol last night with DS-D and it was great! The language used was very much to the original film and I really enjoyed it and as it was a MS job it worked out a little cheaper too)

I've done 11 MS jobs over the last two days so need to sort my paperwork out to keep for those as its in a huge pile in the livingroom at the moment and then I intend to attack the house!

Didn't get round to doing the shopping yesterday so I need to do that today too then get my head back into cooking as we're starting to slip a little again!

Hope everyone has a good start to the weekend

  • Good morning everyone  Not been here for a while, and not sure if I should post, as I'm not on Diva's list of people who are missed :p

WE're in the process of clering space in our freezer for our Gloucester Old Spot pig, who arrives in 2 weeks' time :j Yesterday was "French Night"; we had baked camembert (frozen since we brought it home from Normandy in the summer :D ) and mussels, served with crusty HM baguettes and vegetable sticks to dip. I made a tarte tatin with apples from the garden, but we were all too full, so that'll be eaten later ;) DD asked a friend for tea, and she tucked in too :T DD said she was probably the only one of her friends who would eat mussels :T

I'll be making cider later from apple juice I pressed from our apples last month, and then frozen. Unlike Diva's recipe, ours will be ready to drink within the week

DH has taken the children to swim club, then he's buying paint - we both have next week off work to decorate our sitting room :j

Lunch today will be HG parsnip and apple soup, with HM tear and share bread. We're then over the road to friends for supper

    Happy Birthday to Hester

Have a fabulous Old Style day, everyone :T

  • Morning Chums, just been down to the kitchen and the smell of the brisket is gorgeous. think I will do mash and green beans to go with it for lunch. Its hardly shrunk at all so it will definitely be another winner chalked up for slow cooking. My sis-in-law isn't due until 11.00 so I thought I would do some cake for when she gets here.I feel the inclination for a lemon drizzle cake as I have a large lemon that must be used up in the fridge, plus of course a few of twinks hob-nobs. Weather is looking a bit grey at the moment but we shall be under cover at the Dockside outlet centre when we shop.
I have got a list of to-do things as long as my arm so I'd better crack on and 'do' them.Sis-in-law is lovely but one of those whose 'eyes note everything'
Right off to get a shower .Hope everyone has a splendid day and keeps warm and dry
    Cheers JackieO

    Morning everyone.

My back is killing me :( I used the Wii Active the other day and it's upset it. Honestly why I appear to have the body of a 90 year old woman and not someone a little bit past 30 ;) is beyond me. Lifting the mini heifer that is DD doesn't help either :rotfl:

Plans for today are to go shopping at some point, I need to get some bit and pieces for next week (I haven't been to Mr S for over a week - a new record :T:rotfl:) and to get a birthday present for a party DS is going to tomorrow. I might be having a friend over this morning, her plans depend on the weather so if it's awful she'll be coming round here for refuge!!
OS is the usual round of washing, vac-ing and cleaning. We don't need any biccies at the mo as we were given two tins at the family do last week. Must sort out my accounts as well oh joy

lowesly - glad you're going to see your Dr. Hope he can point you in the right direction. Some of the girls on my other forum used herbal extrac Agnus Castus to help with ovulation (can be bought in Holland and Barrett) but seeing as how you are speaking to the Dr it's up to you whether you want to try that xx

Hester - Happy Birthday - have a mexican wave from me smiliewave.gif and a bdaycake2.gif hope you have a lovely day.

Now I read yesterdays thread and do I assume some posts are now missing ;) Not had a PM either <stamps foot> I demand that I get one :rotfl: Also I think snidey remarks about who has or hasn't started the thread are uncalled for. We are a friendly community on here - I'd like to keep it that way so new and current posters aren't put off contributing.
    <gets off soapbox>

Anyway hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.

By the way meant to ask - where do we stand on BBD's for cream? I've got some double cream which is use by 15th November and it's unopened. I guess given it's 21st November it's a leeeeeeeetle too late to use it even by OS standards?
