To be a friend and mentor to the young person and to ensure that the interview proceeds in accordance with fairness and in a way that the young person can understand.
For many young people this is their first and only encounter with the law and a volunteer can have a huge impact.
Our appropriate adult volunteers are also offered additional work if they are interested.

Think i'll be good at 2, 3 & 4. I did say on the form for number 3, I wouldn't want to pick up vomit etc
Number 1 interests me, but i'm concerned I only want to do it because I miss my daughter. She was only 2 when I last saw her and 9 when she died, and would now be 16. So i'm not 100% on that one.
Slavvy thats fab :T:T:T:T:T
They all sound so interesting!
Number 1 - If its because you miss your daughter, thats absolutely fine hon. You'll be such a valuable source of support to people who may be felling a little lost, I know several families that need one of these volunteers.
Number 2 - How important to offer a young person support when something happens and they could be feeling out of their depth and scared. If I ever got arrested i'd be terrified - and i'm 41!
Number 3 and 4 - I do this for free when i'm at hospital! Again it's an alien environment plus the added upset of accident/illness - a freindly face and kind word can make a big difference to the experience.
What happens next? Do they contact you and tell you which one they want you to do or could you get offered all of them and you choose what you most want to do????

Well, with 1, I'm still unsure, I don't want to apply for the wrong reasons.
2 would be easy enough, the police station is 10 minute walk away.
3 and 4 would be good too. I also thought about my local CAB, but i've had bad experiences with them, one of which they accused me of lying about my flatmate and I not having a sexual relationship, all because we are male and female.
I had to apply to the main volunteer centre in my town, so they will meet with me eventually and discuss each placement, and then see if any of them want me
I am seeing my Job Centre advisor on Monday to discuss with her, it was meant to be today, but didn't feel up to going.0 -

I'm just hoping I find something. I don't have any support outside of any working environment anyway, so will miss having someone to come home too, which is what I really want. It's no fun being lonely. I may have a flatmate, but she has no interest in me.
I hope to get some sort of career, so then someone will think i'm half decent.
Hopefully by going out more, albeit in a working environment, I will meet people.......either that or it's the old folks home Xmas party :rolleyes:0 -
Really impressed Slavvy. It is so good when people help each other out. So many of my parents need support.
I hope it all goes well and then you can start to reap the rewards as well as the people who you help.
Glad you aren't streaking Philippa. Handbag or not.
Oh You can all laugh. Today I left my purse at work. The head phoned to say it was in the satffroom. Told you I would lose a bag!!!
Love to all,

I just hope someone accepts me. I've been turned down for voluntary work before, because I was young and based on what I look like, and that's not me being paranoid.0
