I dont think that is that unreasonable, if the iceskating and food is included? just think how much just going iceskating would cost for a family of 5

£5 each for a family skate at my local ice rink after school

I think they're ripping you off.

Maybe it depands on where you go. All their packages at my local rink are from 5-6 ish or £6.50 including skate hire.

The Bluewater ticket is £30 for a family of 4 for 45 minutes on the ice including skate hire in their "Winter Wonderland" section. they have a ferris wheel and lots of other rides (which they charge for if you want to go on them) and there and loads of shoppy/cabin type places and you can see Santa for free (the grotto is really impressive with animated model animals and a massive polar bear if last year is anything to go by). You get a book as the free gift - DK Encylopedia last year for a child aged 6 or so.

  • Save your money and got to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, it's free admission and then you pay for the rides you go on. There's a German Christmas market on too! For 300 notes you could fly to Cologne or Nuremberg to see the proper Christmas style markets rather than go to some nnativity scene in the middle of the new forest.
  • I understand where you are coming from, looking for a simular style of day out, for less money. I know children would absolutley adore the lapland uk, probabaly more than a grotto and then off to the ice rink as its a whole little imaginary place for them. I suppose its on how spoilt your child is LOL. You can take them to the local grotto, lapland UK or the real lapland, each more expensive than the other :D

Have a look at this guy's video from last year (bear in mind, these are his edited highlights):

I guess we can all concede that Bewl Water is never going to compete with -25 degrees in Finland on Chirstmas Eve, but saying it's automatically a step up from many of the free Christmas experiences on offer if you do your homework as some on here have done on this thread is a bit steep.

Cleopatra - if you do go - have a good time and come back and post your experiences on here - I'm sure we'd like to hear ;) Make sure you get the 2 for 1 though!

Nothing steep about it at all! You comparing it to a freebie grotto now that's steep, or some would say ridiculous!!! A 4-5 hour experience complete with ice-skating, a meal, visits and interaction in the toy factory and the gingerbread house, huskies, storytelling by the Sami's and the magical atmosphere can not be compared to Bluewater's free grotto!

How you can be so negative about it when you haven't even been is bizarre.

The Snow Dome in Birmingham is supposed to be very good and it's real snow :)
