  • But if people dont say 'cancel your Sky/gym etc', then I'm not really sure what other advice folks can give someone looking to save money, hence posting up an SOA and asking for tips to save money and help pay off debts becomes a bit futile really...

The advice that most people give is to 'look at your expenditure' and decide just how much of it is really necessary. 'SKY' and 'Gym' subscriptions are, generally, highlighted as people can actually live without them. Judging by the costs quoted here, the cancelling of these two items alone could free up to £100 a month from a debtor's outgoings.
In fairness, though, the most 'common' advice regarding SKY is to either 'cancel' or 'downgrade'. Nobody really wants to see people go totally without their pleasures.

I really don't understand what the argument is all about. If you have a hobby/lifestylechoice/interest/etc that cost you £XX per month and you can afford it--then go for it, enjoy it and everything is great.

If you have council tax you can't afford to pay, children who need nappies that you can't afford to buy and then you go asking for advice and say "I really can't give up Sky/the gym/Fridaynightout, its all the entertainment we have" then I think that maybe you are wasting your time searching for help on this forum.

If everyone could afford the life style choices they make they would not be posting thier soa on this board. Or do some people think that better advice would be "yes, I can see how empty life is without Sky, I think the children should stop eating every other day" (although, now I think about that....)

  • Lost SKY for 3 weeks whilst viewing card would not work, quite happy with freeview channels, did not miss sky at all. It is a luxury and an expensive one at that . . .
