Because 'we' are the 'bottom of the heap'.

Hardly  BGs get a lot of PMs that directly relate to the duties we perform. If it makes you feel any better then looking in my inbox there isn't a single "personal" pm in there... all "business"... and as Fermi is showing even 100 is often not enough because we do a lot of stuff "off board" answering peoples questions about where to post, reporting abuse to us, and 50,000 other questions that a BG need to answer :)
If everyone had 100 instead of 50 then the servers would slow down enormously :(

Swear at it, hit it, threaten to sell it and then open a beer/bottle of wine/whiskey/vodka and sit back and glare at it till it surrenders ;) or does that only work on my husband?

I think this question really depends on an individual's circumstances.

If you only have 30 quid in your budget for food after essentials, and yet are still paying 20 quid per month for Sky, it seems logical to me that you should drop the Sky in favour of eating nutritional food. I've no doubt that you could get enough, exceptionally cheap, own brand food to last the month on 30 quid, but I doubt that it would have much nutritional value. And whilst eating badly for a few months can be done, it would end up affecting your general health, immune system etc. The last thing you want is to then get ill and not be able to work! So, in this example at least, it would be best to up your food budget and drop the sky.

However, if you situation is not as bad as that and you don't otherwise go out, then I think Sky is a logical and fairly cheap form of entertainment for the month. However, that said, a freeview box would also entertain you.

Also, as others have stated before, sometimes the only way to get TV reception is through Sky. Granted, there may be other ways to resolve that issue, but often the upfront cost for that can be far more costly than Sky. And yes, I admit, none of us NEED TV, but we do need some form of relaxation/entertainment in order to maintain our sanity. And, so long as your situation is not as bad as the first example, then Sky is a good solution.

Personally, I used to love Sky! I thought I couldn't do without it, but I can and I do. In the 9 months since I left the UK I can honestly say that there are only 2 channels that I miss: Living TV and Sky One. Yes, I love cr 'ppy TV! :) Now I only have a few channels that even play English speaking shows, the rest is in Dutch. I mainly watch stuff on the laptop now :)

But, I have to say, I now think the TV is overrated. We had a power cut recently that lasted all evening. No internet, no TV, nothing. But my OH and I entertained ourselves by talking a lot, telling each other funny stories from our past etc and then playing Buckaroo (the only game in the house - I should invest in something half decent). All in all, it was a much better and more entertaining evening than sitting in front of the TV/Laptop! :)

What? No laptop? But how will I speak to my husband without msn?
Don't tell him but I've put scrabble on the list of things to give him for christmas :) oddly in the aim of spending less time with TV/laptop/games consoles. Apparently Scrabble isn't a fly by night game so I figured I'd give it a try... (after practising on my DS for a few weeks before hand ofcourse - otherwise I'd never stand a chance!)
