  • Well I researched it a bit and after reading the reviews on here I used Hatton Garden Metals. I was dubious but some of the reviews were from regulars, I put my trust in them and sent the unwanted gold (mainly earrings where I'd lost on of a pair and items I'd bought when I was a teenager and had no taste). I sent the items at 1.40pm yesterday and I have £170 in my bank today.

    Couldn't be happier. Excellent service.

I haven't used them before but after reading reviews and getting an online quote I am glad I did. I sent off 9ct gold consisting of a thin necklace, 2 charms, 3 prs of earrings, odd backs, torque bangle and bracelet and a broken silver chain. My items weighed about 23g and i received just under £130 which am well pleased as wouldn't have got that much elsewhere, sadly I have other gold but those are pieces I want to keep, so have to see if I can find some more gold lying around
  • Posted assorted gold items and coins yesterday at 10 am, received an email by midday today itemising the various carats/weights and the amount which had been paid into my bank account. I got slightly less than the online quote but I wasn't surprised as my scales aren't spot-on, and the items included non-gold, eg watch glass and face. I chose HGM after a fair bit of research, and I'd recommend them. Very good service :T
  • I cannot recommend Hatton Garden metals too highly - I sent off my gold in the 4.30 pm post and the money was in my bank by 12.30 the next day, under 20 hours!
Weighed my 9 carat and 14 carat items on my kitchen scales at 31 grams and 18 grams and he paid me on 31.3 grams and 18.4 grams.
Clear instructions, prompt response and friendly communication - fantastic service and superb price.
My brother recommended them to me as he had the same superb service and price a few days earlier.
    Don't go anywhere else!!!
  • was a bit wary, even after reading all the good reviews because I was worried about some of them being spam...but sent off a few broken bits of jewellery and I honestly, honestly thought I was going to get about £30, but I thought, hey once I've taken off the special delivery cost that's still £25 in the bank, not to be sniffed at in these difficult times. Just got the email - £145. I'm actually shaking a little bit. Seems like a pretty good service to me...

I sent my unwanted gold off to Hatton Gold earlier in the week and I couldn't fault them, posted the package after 4 in the afternoon and by 11am the next morning the cash was in the bank :D they nearly doubled what a local jeweller had offered. My mum is now clearing out her old gold with a view to sending it to Hatton too. Couldn't fault them

Thinking of using these cats to ditch some unwanted inherited gold onto.

Thing is, most of the stuff that we have remaining is with stones.
therefore is it worth removing the stones (but then where do you sell these?) or is it worth looking elsewhere to sell the gold complete with stones?

Another thing of worry, we have a ring that is fairly sizeable 18ct but with a full caret of diamond on top, as verified by a high street gold pawn shop who said that they would pay out on it but at nothing like proper value, so any ideas please as to where to get value on this piece?

I have taken a lot of the recommendations in this thread with a rather large pinch of salt however there are a fair few MSEs with high post counts jumping in with praise.

  • Posted my stuff off yesterday and I already have £653.57 in my bank account! As I've never sent anything off before I don't know what other companies may be like to deal with but I can say I've had a positive experience with this one.

I found their details on another thread (that I can't find now) and took the plunge. But do your research, I checked out a few other sites before deciding, go with what you feel most comfortable with.

  • Hattons service is excellent.I got quotes on the sale of Krugerands and Sovereigns at my local jewellers, on line buy-gold companies and Hattons.
Hattons prices were 20% higher, on the day of the sale the price was even better plus the money was in the bank same day. Don't you just love professionals.

Further to my question about VAT on scrap gold, http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2239691

I sent my gold to HGM yesterday morning and had the money placed in my account around 2pm today.

Brilliant service, thanks HGM and thanks to MSE :T
