I request you refer to the line in bold.

    Point 2
Marmalade Car Club is a pay service; Pipeline isn't.

    Point 3
The information however minimal was at the beginning of the mail. The Sat-Nav info then followed. It was clearly marked what it was about so why continue reading if you are not interested? Yes it may have taken up more of the email but I would rather get the full information available rather than a single liner saying 'Sat-Nav cheap at the following link'.

At the end of the day, just as if this was another website or high street shop, if you are not happy with the service then do not visit the website/shop again and request your details to be removed from their systems.

I for one will be hoping for Pipeline to take off. So far it has cost me nothing so therefore I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Firstly, as i explained earlier - i don't see how selling GPS equipment can be deemed a 'Pipeline activity'. It can't given the supposed aims of the site, unless you are saying that finding 'discounts' generally is one of these "activities"?!!!

Second, regarding Marmalade Car Club - my point is valid - it has been tried before, albeit, that membership fee is required. You asked when it had been tried and i told you. There are no guarantees that PipeLine won't do the same at the end of the day either.

My issue is with the fact that at the moment it seem the whole thing is going nowhere, has little chance of success, and yet sites like this one (which is well run and has a clear policy regarding its income) are merely lining Ben Scammell's pockets through providing him with an extremely valuable marketing tool. If he makes no profit on it - then why not declare it so.
In fact, that is the only result of the whole thing so far! And i believe that suggesting otherwise i naive.

Why shouldn't Ben make money from his site though? If his plans for a pipeline card are legitimate then I see no problem in him making money from the interprise. He has to pay the bills like the rest of us including those for what I guess is expensive hosting for his website.

Honesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site
    you are on!

if i had known then what i know now!

a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!

For goodness sake; those who keep whinging about Pipeline, can you please give it a rest.

As I understand it; Ben Scammell is trying to get this thing off the ground in his spare time, and if it takes off, the card will be issued free of charge (so how do you think the cards are going to be paid for?).
And if he does gain something along the way (and there's nothing to say that he is) then why not. You're not paying for it!!

If anyone knows anything about negotiating a deal they'll know that it can take some time to finalise one - if at all. I'm thinking that it could take Ben Scammell a good 18 months to sort this one out.

If he manages to pull this thing off, then those who have signed up, will gain something. If he doesn't, then they've lost nothing.

And if people are so concerned that their details will be passed on to someone else or they've got problems with the time that the process is taking, or for any reason as far as that goes, then unsubscribe yourself. Nobody is forcing you to stay on pipelines 'books'

So why don't you give the guy some support instead of keep moaning about him.

    Lets make no mistake,

this card will be good once it turns up, but it seems more of a cleaver way of obtaining a few email address. Is he selling our details on ? so he these people can send us offers ??????

I prefer to see less offers from the man, and more progress. I would say Any Discount is a start, and so long as we all prepared to make this work, by switching, it will be all good.

but less of the offers ...

Why all the complaints about offers? There's only been one, for goodness sake! Get a life, you've paid nothing to register, if it works that's great, if not we can all forget it!
I have yet to receive any emails from other sources to indicate that my email address has been passed on to others, so there can be no complaint there.
In short, the whingers should either put up or shut up and remove their names from the Pipeline emailing list.

I think the problem is of referrals and transparency!

Pipeline card was promoted for free by a number of people on this site and many others on the understanding it was going to be a free service for members to get discount fuel.

IMHO the promises/assurances made by Ben were always highly suspect and unachievable. The oft quoted Holland model is nothing more than a Loyalty card (like Shell Points et al). The economics of the UK forecourt mean that it would be impossible to sustain this level of discounts on a free card. All this from a relative inexperienced computer techie with a taste for fast cars and no connections in the petrol industry. For that reason I didn't sign up because I believe it can never deliver what was originally promised.

On to referrals issue this isn't the first "Spam" that Pipeline have sent out. The March Newsletter had links to gas / electricity switching and car insurance. The former typically paying a hefty referrals bonus per switcher.

So if you want to switch suppliers are you better giving Ben the referrals money, Martin (via his website links) or using a cashback site and keeping the money yourself. I know who I feel is least deserving.

If someone posted a link on MSE to a discount GPS device with a referral code he made money from without declaring the interest he'd get slated and his posts deleted. If he did it again he'd get banned.

So why is Ben given special treatment?

    Rufus.

    Exactly!!!

You've hit the nail on the head!

To me it is begining to look like a couple of "free whisky" sites that were set up to promote a ficitional new whisky. It was put on this site and i'm sure many people signed up - it was obviously all a scam to get a nice new list of email addresses to spam.

Like you say the economics behind his price saving model are highly suspect and so the only other option to profit from it is to spam.
