If everyone who received the text answered (In this case there was no charge but this may not always happen) and told them to 'F*:naughty: *F' it may deter companies from using this method of finding business!

An Indian call centre I did that to after playing along with them to find out who they were working for in the UK (so I could complaint about them as they had withheld their number) then took great pleasure in reselling my data to numerous other UK call centres who all took the line that I had agreed to be called by them when I complained I was already registered with the TPS.

So whilst your suggestion is tempting I suspect its not a good idea in practice.

Basically nobody wants to take any action including the mobile companies who profit from each of these messages being sent but who could easily block this one based on its constantly repeated content where the wording used is always the same.

Actually, I suspect that part is a poor assumption, as the chancers behind these messages probably buy an unlimited text bundle on a payg SIM and hit it until it gets cut off for exceeding fair use policy (which can be quite a lot)

I had another such message on a different phone recently, and contacted O2 which appeared to be the original network of the sending number. The person I spoke to was uninterested in reporting internally that this use was arguably outside their terms and conditions, and said I should speak to Orange, about the SIM I received the message on.

I assume they stick the SIM card in a device which can operate it through a computer program with a random number generator facility and they don't have somebody manually keying the numbers they send each text to.

I received the same text last month not sure what the number was as I deleted the message. I have just got another of the same today from 447759790193. I am also with Vodafone.
  • So in short Vodafone are doing precisely nothing to deal with the problem.:mad::mad::mad:

I dont know if this is a coincidence but I have also had a phone call from 08080600832, it was a silent call. When I googled the number some people are stating that its vodafone and others stating that the caller is pretending to be vodafone. Any help?

I'm currently on Orange, and I have today received the same message from +447591873690.

In all my years of owning a mobile, I've never received spam messages, and so I'm a little suspicious of receiving one since purchasing a new contract with t-mobile (2 days ago), through buymobilephones.net (who I've dealt with previously, without issue).

It's back again, 15th April 2011, recieved on a Three mobile (I'm careful about giving it out and to whom) but this time from 07818175182 (a different number range, but still Vodafone I believe.)
