Hi Mouche,
I was just wondering how things were progressing?
Hope all is well,

hi jelly...thanks for asking. No news to report. The Home Office deducted the fee on the 29th of December so they've had it for about 2 weeks now. Their website says it takes 4-6 weeks to process so not really expecting to hear back till the end of January.
In the meantime, my husband has started his new job 'unofficially' because they were getting antsy about how long it was taking. He's not on the payroll and is working free of charge so hopefully they will wait long enough for his papers to come through.
We're starting to struggle financially - the last time he got a paycheck was in October and though I earn enough to manage the the rent and bills etc., we're struggling to afford his commuting costs.
There's no way to get to his work by public transport and he hasn't got a driving license yet. So we're paying for his driving lessons, paying for someone to sit with him while he practises, and paying £20 a day for taxi fares for him to get to work and back. If the visa doesn't come through soon, he's going to have to start changing two buses and walking for 20 mins to get to work. Total travel time 2 hrs when by car it's 15 minutes. He says he'll do this now rather than waste money of taxis but he gets terrible headaches and motion sickness on buses so I don’t think he’ll be fit for work if he travels for 2 hours to get there! Just going from day to day now….thank you for your support.Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)

This is the first time I have seen your post. You poor thing. Do stay positive, hopefully just two more weeks to go.
Has the company said they will back pay him?
I wonder if there is someone at his work place who can drive him to work for the next few weeks? Is he close to taking his test, that is probably the key thing for him. Would it be possible for you to drive him there, then he get the bus back?
I do hope it all works out. The very fact the money has been taken is hopefully positive.0 -
Thanks Counting_Pennies. I believe they take the money first and look at the application later so no guarantee they'll approve it. But we've gone through reputed agents so hopefully if there was a problem with the application, they would have spotted it before submitting.
I don't drive either, unfortunately so that's not an option. I think he's asking around about lifts to or from work - he's just recruited someone who doesn't live far from us so maybe he can help.
There's no suggestion of back pay but his manager has said he will try to give him a few days extra holiday once he joins properly. At least if working free holds the job for him, it's a result.
Please keep your fingers and toes crossed that the application does get processed in 4 weeks. Once of our acquaintances in the same situation has just returned to his country because his company withdrew the job offer after waiting for 8 weeks. You can't even chase the Home Office until 14 weeks are over. What employer will wait for 14 weeks?!
Anyway, staying positive.Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)

Hi Mouche,
It sounds as if you are doing all that you can to make this work. The only suggestion I have is to maybe look at liftshare.com. People register journeys that they wish to share lifts for. It's a long shot, but you never know. Keep on gritting your teeth, and we'll keep everything crossed for you,

how about a compromise? taxi to work and bus home, will eek it out a little without making him unfit for work - tough while he has to do it though. hope it gets sorted sooner rather than later.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

hi all...just wanted to let you know that the visa has come today!!!!!!!
Three months of stress and it's finally over - I am so happy and relieved. Thank you all so much for the huge amount of support you have given me. I can't tell you how much it has meant to me.
Now fingers crossed that this episode won't affect our permanent residence application in July. Once we get that, I will finally feel secure here. Bt that is another story and I refuse to worry about it just yet!Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)
