  • Yay, just got my credit card statment and it's pushed me over the £1k mark :)

On the down side I've just cracked something in my crown and my fake tooth is now wobbling allarmingly and really, really hurting so I envisage some very expensive dentists bills on the horizon :( and what's worse my dentist is closed at the weekend so I'll have to wait until Monday to get it sorted :'(

Oh dear tis all going horribly wrong. Trying to redistribute the debt by spending on 0% credit cards and dipping into new free A&L overdraft, but now totally confused over how the debt is spread. Loads of 'available' balance in the bank, but credit card balances getting bigger (by the day:() My signature is now a lie. Knew overall debt would go up about now, but might avoid posting until i can make some big chunky repayments off old expensive overdraft

Banwa can totally sympathise with your situation, we have been doing the same, and although the overdraft is gone, seeing the totals go up on the credit card is sooooo depressing. Please keep posting though, sometimes its grounding to hear the bad as well as the good (makes me feel I'm not alone at least!!!) Chin up ;)

  • Evening all,
Where is everyone???? the thread has been mighty quiet this weekend! Amatheya - hope you got your tooth sorted, and didn't have to fork out too much. Banwa, we have 3 cc, 3 current a/c and 3 savings a/c (activity is slow there though lol) its easy to lose track at times. At least we are all still trying, learning curve and all that! No payments to update, just dropped in to say hello - Hope everyone had a good & frugal weekend :D

  • Thanks Peetzil. Tooth cost me £25 at the weekend and I've got to book a proper dental appaointment today... no idea how much that's going to cost :(

Oh well, could be worse. Maybe some money will magically appear in my bank over the next few days lol
  • Just checking in and saying Hi! Sorry I havn't posted much, it's because I havn't been paying anything towards my savings.. boo.

I get paid on friday (whoo) but I will not be able to put as much away as I thought due to various payments so will not hit the £2150 target I set myself. At the most I'll have £2050, which at least gets me past the £2000 mark.

Seeing other people's figures spurs me on though, so well done to everyone!

    Hey all,

We have gone quiet haven't we! I guess we're all just trying to battle on.

Just a quick question (hope it's not too personal!) - In your quest to be debt free - how much of a social life do you still have?

I have in the past month received invites to: two weddings (Staffordshire and Bournemouth) two hen dos (Birmingham and Liverpool) and two birthday nights out (Birmingham and Nottingham). ARGH! They're all over the next 3 months and it seems a lot but I don't know how to say no. Accomodation will be needed at most events on top of the general spending as I'm in Birmingham.

    How does everyone else cope?!?
Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...

Hi Loumac, gosh you could be me posting! One of the reasons why my savings are struggling are weddings and hen dos. They are costing me a small fortune. I have said no to a friends 2nd hen do as costs were getting daft. Other than that i've just tried to cut back in other ways, spending less money at the weddings/hen dos and wearing outfits I already have etc. I find not drinking much really cuts down the costs, plus there may be ways you could drive back for example?

Generally I have been trying to do cheaper things, DVDs, walking, less meals and shopping trips out but still seeing bf and friends but trying to do things that are cheaper. Its actually nice sometimes to be frugal as it cuts out pressure of shopping trips, agreeing to holidays etc. I've had to say no to a few things recently and my life hasn't stopped because of it...

Are you able to budget for these dos? Or is it impossible for you to afford to go? If so, you need to be honest as I'm sure your friends wouldnt want you to get in debt to do these things. However setting aside money on a weekly/monthly basis is a really good idea and one I do. I think in advance what I'm going to be doing and set aside money that month to do it/set aside an amount each month.

    xx
