£2,775.83 new total for me, just paid my loan today, a whole 12 days early!!! will go over the 3k mark this month, its mad to think that i owe 3k less than i did at the begining of the year

I know Lamarsi it's crazy when you think that you've paid off nearly £3k of debts since beginning of year and it's only 17th February! :j:j:T:T i love love love paying off debts gives me such a good feeling, i can see the light!!!

Except had a really really bad day yesterday and spent £1.25 on chocolate (Dairy Milk & Peanut M&M's if anyones interested! lol) and now kicking myself that that £1.25 could've gone towards my debt and not my waistline.

But I'm thinking that I'm giving up chocolate for Lent today so hopefully no more unnecessary £1.25 spends! :rotfl:

  • Went onto joint account yesterday to check if no council tax month... thought would transfer over now to keep spirits up.

Was amazed not only to find hadn't paid council tax, but also how much money was left in the account mid-month!

Have just transferred £1,000 to savings :j:j:j and hoping to still have another £100 or so left over at the end of the month.

I don't seem to be bringing in as much extra income the last few months but this seems to have been more than made up for by [STRIKE]being a total tight !!!!! [/STRIKE] careful spending. So far this month we have only spent £120 on food, last year we'd spend £90 a week on food, and that was with careful planning!

shadydaz that is a great thing you did for your FIL.:A

Museum worker, well done on keeping the spends down on the grocery shops! Mine are hovering between £50-£60 a week at the moment and there is only two of us, im sure i can get that down... I MUST GET THAT DOWN (**goes off to amend Asda order to get below £50**)

  • Hi,

I would like to join this thread - fairly new to using this forums - or any forums!! but I have dipped in and out of this when I have needed some advice over the past year and it has been a real support so I thought sharing my story and queries might help some people too!

After agonising about going bankrupt and being pushed by family members to take the bankruptcy option cos they said it was easier - who wont let us forget now that we are in this mess cos we didnt take their advice?? -I decided that I would like to keep some control over our debts so i went for a DMP instead with a firm promise to myself that i would change my ways of spending and knuckle down to pay off the debt. Its not that we lived extravagently, just slightly beyond our means swapping credit cards and not being able to pay them off properly and we also took a personal loan for our mortgage deposit

I am six months in to a DMP with Payplan and am £30k in debt (joint with partner, but i am the one that does the finances) Having a bit of a crack up moment (as I seem to be doing more and more regularly now!!) cos I am starting to get calls from creditors again saying my agreement needs to be renewed. Some of them have accepted and have been great but some are really annoying - sending letters etc.

The credit card co are now presuring me to make a reduced payment of 1.8k on a 6k card before they refer the account on to debt recovery. I dont know what to do about this. Have zero cash to pay it but could use a credit card that I still have for dire emergencies - I suspect that this would be a bad thing to do but the chance to pay off at such a reducd payment is stressing me out.

Any one got any ideas - had any similar experiences?
  • I said I was new to this...posted in the wrong place I think...soz!!
  • £9 refunded from Souther Electric... not a huge amount but better than a slap in the face with a wet fish lol
  • Hi Stevied123 and welcome along hun, but I think you may have posted in the wrong place! (don't worry - i did it too as a newbie) :D

We are all trying to pay off 10k of our debts this year (and help and support each other in doing so :j), so if that sounds like a challenge you want to join in with, tell us a bit about yourself and Shadydaz will allocate you a number.

Im sorry Ive got no experience of DMPs though hun, hopefully someone else on here has and will be along shortly, but have you tried starting a new thread on the Debt free wannabe (DFW) board? or perhaps posting on one of the 'ask a CCCS councillor' threads? that way you may get a more specific or qualified answer? (without knocking the experience of any one on this thread of course! lol :rotfl:)

    Hope this helps

  • Hi all

I forget who now, maybe Fluffy?? said you had lost your momentum...anything we can help with? We're bound to get blips but the great thing about this forum is that hopefully we can share it with each other - god I sound like I'm chairing an AA meeting!!

Everyone's doing very well - I'll be updating next week with my payments - this time I'm going to include my interest as Shady is right, it is made as part of the total amount repayable and is therefore part of the debt.

You may remember I sold my car - I pocketed £1500 to pay a loan off with and will be doing that as soon as I get to the bank so fingers crossed that can go in our Feb total!!

Oh dear tis all going horribly wrong. Trying to redistribute the debt by spending on 0% credit cards and dipping into new free A&L overdraft, but now totally confused over how the debt is spread. Loads of 'available' balance in the bank, but credit card balances getting bigger (by the day:() My signature is now a lie. Knew overall debt would go up about now, but might avoid posting until i can make some big chunky repayments off old expensive overdraft
