British Gas Energy Smart

            Could someone clarify for me:
1. The energy consumption monitor only has to plug into a socket in your property and doesn't require any installation on the electricity meter itself?
2. Am I right in thinking the monitor does not display meter readings from your electricity meter (if it has another component which is installed on the meter itself) and you have to read your meter in the usual way every month at least?
The reason I ask is the electricity meters for the flats in my building are all behind a locked door and I need to get a key from the caretaker to read the meter. If I have to do this every month, it'll be a royal pain in the backside and I won't bother applying for this Energy Smart.
Many thanks.0 -
I am on Price Guarantee Dec 2009 so will be switching when this expires. If I order EnergySmart now, will it extend any terms I have to lock into with BG? Or can I order it, then come a few weeks' time switch and keep my monitor?
Very cheeky I know, but if it's legit I don't see anything wrong in doing this.0 -

1 The monitor has a remote sensor which is battery powered. This takes the form of a clip which you attach around the live feed from your meter. The monitor itself is mains powered.
2 It does not act as a substitute meter you still have to read the meter ever month. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Personally, I would be better off just buying a current cost meter and updating our readings like we are doing at the moment with Scottish Power
We are paying around 10.5ppu daytime and 5.07ppu night at the moment and British Gas quoted 33ppu daytime up to the first 125units then 11p and 4.70ppu at nightIt's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
I've been paying for what I use for the last 4 years...with Ebico, just read the meter and call it in.
No split tarrif con, excellent customer service, reasonable rates.0 -
I'm on Click 6 for electricity, can't find the tariff on the comparison sites so don't know if the units are dearer or cheaper.
You can on the Which website that has free access to non members for comparisons. www.which.co.uk
Out of interest for me click 6 is still the cheapest tariff for electric.0 -
Just had my first bill through Energy Smart and I'm a bit confused. At the end of the last statement (pre-Energy Smart) I was around £50 in debt on Gas but about £60 in credit on elec. New bill today shows they will take DD for the £50 gas yesterday (just checked bank online and it hasn't been taken) and then showing a further DD for about £45 gas used in the last month to be taken on the 14th Dec. Only used about £15 of elec in the last month so statement just shows a reduced credit balance of £45. No sign of that being credited back to my account. Is this just a very easy way of BG making sure that any money that they are owed is automatically paid promptly while they are still able to keep customers in credit?0

Ebico gas rates are reasonable - very good for low users.
However, much as we all like the firm, their electricity prices are expensive.0 -

Thanks for the heads up, I had not realised at the time of posting that EnergySmart was a bolt on goody for any qualifying tarrif with BG, so I'm paying the same now I've joined. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
            Hello,
I'm really clueless about this stuff so can someone help me please?
I'm on duel fuel with British Gas Fix Price til August 2010v0 & pay online with a card every 3 months - if the bill is estimated I correct it even if it costs me more (they catch you up eventually
 )
So should I change to this energy smart? And if I do, how will I be paying for my gas & elec & how often?
Thanks in advance
