Read your post #33!
You made that statement!!
And you asked me to qualift that statement which is excaclty wha tI have been doing.
It seems what you wanted to say and what you did say are two different things, as i've done everything you've asked for but perhaps this is not what you actually wanted.
And Yes I do acknowledge that VDD has now been established however its not available on many of BGAS's better tarriffs. (I shall be talking again to Jenny to find out why I she didn't tell me this little snippet.0 -

Smidgey, this is very helpful, and I'm almost convinced. Just a couple of questions. Firstly, I currently pay by monthly DD, of which the Gas section is in credit. On this new scheme, would they refund this amount or just leave the credit in place to come off the new monthly bills, and also, if I am away when the meter reading is due, what happens then? Sorry for all the questions?;)0 -
BG must be telepathic! They rang me following my message to them just after I had finished replying to your last post, Smidgey! Result! Set up Energy Smart, paid up my leccy bill, and they will refund oodles of money on gas bill. Set up variable DD too. Can't see any catch here, but will keep a beady eye out for one:j Thanks, Smidgey!0

If you're away in the time frame when a reading is needed, then an estimated figure will be used.
If you're in credit, then normally that credit would be left on the account, and offset against the new monthly bills as they come in. However if you do ask for a refund then normal procedures would be followed (i.e. if it's large enough then you're due a refund).
If you have a debit balance, and don't want to pay it off at the time of signing up, then it would be rolled into your first bill.
(NB: I work for British Gas, but don't post in any official capacity. Any views I express are my own, and not necessarily those of the company I work for).0 -
So the payment method is a fixed monthly direct debit or a variable monthly direct debit?
Or is it that just the credit accrued from an estiamted reading will be carried forward and deducted form the next variable direct debit?0 -
You have the option of choosing Fixed DD ,Variable DD, and the preferred payment date when setting up the account. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

This terminology on Direct Debits can get mightily confusing.
My understanding is that technically all BG customers paid by Variable Direct Debit. This means that BG could vary the amount without the customer having to sign anything at all. Obviously BG have to inform the customer in advance, that they are going to vary the amount of the DD.
The new form of variable monthly DD is to pay each month the outstanding amount on a monthly bill. Like I pay in full my Credit Card bill each month by Direct Debit.0 -

Me too. Just added it to my Click Energy 6 tariff. Chose variable direct debit although don't remember being asked to specify a payment date. Guess it remains my current one...0
