British Gas Energy Smart

I'm not switching to this Energy Smart yet, because it puts more pressure on you to enter your usage meter readings every month.
I do enter them regularly (gas and electricity), often twice a month... but I like the option of being lazy if I want to be.
This BG Energy Smart thingy says they'll remind you (via email/text message) to enter your readings every month, but what if I just cba? Or am out of the country.
Is there any penalty if you don't enter them monthly? Do they not bill you for that month?

See post 27. You can't have Energy Smart bolted on to Websaver 4.0

Yes, agree, but I can change from Websaver 4 to another tariff, but unsure if I will be saving. (providing I change after feb, to avoid cancellation fees to websaver 4)
From the posts, it looks like the bolt on Energy Smart, is only a tool, to help you reduce your consumption.
As I believe, I am using the lowest comsumption possible, it looks like it's best to stay with WebSaver 4 (or move to another supplier after Feb).
Is that correct ?0 -
They'll forgoe the cancellation fee if you're on a tariff like WebSaver 4. In terms of whether or not you'll be better off, you need to look at unit rates for tariffs supported by Energy Smart (on the website) and do the sums depending on your consumption ...0

now you know what would be revolutionary? if the free energy monitor connected to a wifi connection and upload the usage figures to BG so the customer need not worry about submitting meter readings and then BG would have an actuarate reading. They could make the monitor upload daily figures so the customer has complete control over their energy consumption.0

I actually have this system - unfortunately it is in a property I own in the USA.
The meter was read today(remotely) and the monthly bill emailed to me and has already arrived.
The other interesting feature is the first 1,000kWh per month(all electric) are the cheapest and then prices increase; so a real incentive to keep consumption down.0 -
I am looking at transferring to BG as I like the look of this offer in principle.
I know that the £20 payment at month 13 is an incentive on EnergySmart (I only have electricity), but is there any minimum term for staying with British Gas on EnergySmart (apart from any minimum term applied to the underlying tariff EnergySmart is attached to)?
And what happens to the energy monitor if you transfer to another supplier (do we have to return them or are they ours to keep)?0 -

You're correct, the payment at the end of the year is the only lock-in for the energy smart add-on. (There may still be the cancellation fee for your underlying tariff).
I'm pretty sure the monitor would be yours to keep.0
