Well if you count several years operating in the energy market nothing -- then perhaps i don't know anything. What you are describing is a new tarriff structure, new commitments and obligations.

EnergySmart isn't that - it's a bolt on to exsisting plans meant to augment your current offering. Very much the same as E.on's 10:10 campaign - just administered completley differently.

For reference this during a call today to BGAS I confirmed my interpretation of the plan with their operative Jenny.

Not bad for someone that doesn't know what they're talking about eh?
  • seems to be a pretty good deal for low users

British Gas do not have a current plan where customers can pay by variable monthly direct debit, this was at the time I last time I checked their tarriffs (6 weeks ago approximately).
    Exactly six weeks ago!

EnergySmart was launched on Monday! The system changes went in over the weekend to allow monthly billing and variable Direct Debits.

People on MSE should really do their home work before giving out incorrect information!

Its also worth pointing out although it is a bolt-on its only available on selected tariffs. Which in my case are more expensive.

Has anyone added the bolt on?

Will my current tariff Click Energy 5 stay at the same price?

Thanks for the info, I might give it ago I'd rather pay for what I use per month than overpay.

Your knowledge is not the issue!

You do however seem to have a tendency to jump in and operate keyboard whilst grasping the wrong end of the stick;)

I'd agree I do have that tendancy (due to my owrking environment I have to absorb the infoamtion quiclyn and repsond and then deal with whatever my boss is throwing at me next.) But this is not one of those time. People have sadly fallen from good marketing and advertising.

Your monthly direct debit will be the same as the tarriff you are on or switch to supports. British Gas do not currently offer variable monthly direct debit.

You payments will be (at best) 1/12th of your approximate annual consumption.

The reference to paying for what you use, relates to the fact your meter readings will be used for billing, so you will have accurate bills and so in theory british gas will be able to make more accurate estimations of your annual consumption to base your fixed payment on.

And as mentioned this has been confirmed by a British Gas Agent -- the horses mouth as it were.
