Hi
So .. I have been using this method for nearly 4 weeks now and can say it works! I wont use shampoo again:j one bottle of 99p Tesco Coconut Conditioner has lasted me all this time I guess I have 1 more wash left from this bottle so I estimate it will cost 99p a month or if I go for the cheaper 23pence conditioners like the other members here do then im going to save loads compared to what I used to spend on Aveda and Redeken products:o
I have done research on different CO only sites and find the common theme to 'clarify' can I ask does this have to be with a clarifying shampoo ? im not keen on the baking soda as im dark haired and dont wnat it to lighten my hair.
If anyone can reccomend a cone free clarifying shampoo then that could be something I try
Last Wed I washed as normal with tesco's coconut then wnated to condition with a left over conditioner with Demethicone (sp!) and my hair felt awful so I washed it the next day just with the coconut conditioner nad my hair felt better as if I had clarified? not sure if anyone has had the experiance while CO washing only with cheap cone free conditioners?
Im still using Frizz Ease after I wash to settle the hair before quick blow dry but wnat to wean myself off that , just need to buy coconut oil soon.0 -
Interesting thread - thanks OP.
If my memory serves me correctly, we didn't have hair conditioner in the 1960's and once a week wash with shampoo was the norm. Now, on average people wash and condition their hair 3 times a week or more!
I suspect 1960's shampoos were a much gentler formulation eg soap based rather than detergent/surfactant based, and in the 1960's therefore, there was no 'need' to apply a conditioner afterwards.
I suspect this is an example of marketing genius:- to advertise and sell both the 'problem' and the solution, using sciencey terms and explanations to convince women (primarily) that they needed a conditioner as well as shampoo.
With modern shampoos, I find washing once every 10-12 days is plenty (my hair is long (mid-back) blonde, coloured and dry).
Much better is the CO method. I've found Johnson's Baby "No More Tears" Conditioner (bottle says suitable even for newborns!) superb.
As well as the softness, shine and lightness other posters have mentioned, I can simply let my hair dry naturally and it hangs perfectly straight with just a few slight natural waves that looks like I've worked hard to achieve the 'effect'.
Normally, my hair would be a dishevelled frizzy mess without serums/straighteners/dryers.
CO is def MS! Thanks again OP!:T CB20 -
What a great thread... I will definitely be trying this myself- I have very thick straight hair which can be a bit flyaway so looking forward to giving it a go.0

I have been doing this for a while now, and not only does my hair look much better for it, but my scalp is much better too!
I forgot to take my cheapy conditioner with me when I spent Christmas and New Year at my boyfriend's house, and so washed every day with shampoo instead. By the time I came back to my own house, my scalp was getting spots again, my hair was greasier and it was also more "electric" and flyaway.
I have a variety of conditioners that I will use once I've finished the bottle of Sainsbury's coconut conditioner that I bought especially for this. I guess all the shampoo I have in my stash will get given away now! I intend to only shampoo once a week (with normal shampoo) from now on, and use conditioner only the other days.
Thankyou very much to the person who started this thread!0 -
OMG can't wait to try this tonight. Like most people on this post I have thick, frizzy, damaged hair and have read this thread with much interest and just happened to come across it by chance. Fingers crossed guys!!0

Very interesting thread! I think I'll have to give this a go too, about to embark on the oil cleansing method. Some one said on the OCM thread that it helps with the shoe fund as well as the skin
Those new shoe's will come even quicker with 39p conditioner (not so mse
). Think the OH will be happy with having room in the bathroom without all my lotions and potions, lol!

Can anyone help?
Ok i've been using L'Occitane shampoo and conditioner for damaged hair and also the serum and hair mask. Recently my hair is so greasy that I dont even make it to the end of the day without it looking like i've not washed it in days.
So yesterday I spoke to L'Occitane and it seems as i'm using heavy conditioning products, then my hair has become coated and weighed down. I bought the no silicone range instead and tried that.
Oh its horrendeous, it feels like my hair is coated and just hanging. I've read on the internet its because i've started removing the 'cone' products and there is a transition period. So I went and tried the apple cider vinegar rinse in the hope I would bring back some shine... or at least a little movement but nothing, its just horrible, looks greasy.
Has anyone else gone through this when moving over to non silicone products? I'm going to buy the Tesco coconut conditioner and give that a go but just wanted reasurrance from anyone who's experienced this horrible stage :mad:0 -
I remember reading about this years ago on the handbag.com forums... My hair is in some kind of crisis state at the moment, I'm getting really grey so I dye it every 4 weeks, wash every other day and then blowdry and straighten. Living in Australia the humidity creeps up this time of year, and by the end of the day it looks like a right fizzy dry mess. OH innocently said to me "you've got so much hair, and this funny bit at the back looks just like wire wool" (ok, he did go on to try and rectify the situation by saying "it makes you look pretty though") and even my new hairdresser said "crikey it's so dry your hair"...
So anyway, I'm going to give the conditioner only method a go later on this evening... Redken shampoo and conditioner costs me A$54 (about £35) here, so will be a bonus if the cheapies do work0
