Does this work for people who have bad dandruff? Or will not using dandruff products make it worse?

If you look back at the link in my previous post then you might think that the dandruff could be caused by the SLS in your shampoo - its worth a try what do you have to lose, you really need to ensure that you wash it out really well.

I came about CO after bleaching and dying my hair without rest for the last 23 years (yes since I was 14!), I had such a damaged itchy scalp I had fears of all my hair falling out so I stopped dying it and started CO - hair has never been in such good condition.

I've been using tescos coconut conditioner (99p) but I will try a value range when its run out. The runnier the better as it won't leave a residue on your hair like the pricier ones.

"Dimethicone" is a silicone and to be avoided as it will coat the hair and is difficult to get out without using a shampoo.

Ah ha, the exact same as I use, and I only wash my hair with conditioner, shampoo just dries my hair out far too much ( frizzy hair + bleach + semi perm dyes )

Only thing ( least with my hair ) is that it can make ya hair a bit puffy, so would be an idea to get some anti frizz serum or something too. x
  • Hi I went out and bought the Tesco coconut conditioner at 99p yesterday and washed my hair with it its my first time i've used this method and its left my hair very soft!

My hair is very thick already and it has more body in it now, im trying to cut down on haircare costs usually I use Aveda or Redeken products both very pricey so going from £20+ for shampoo and conditioner to 99p is fantastic and means I can wash my hair more if needed but I only need to do it every 3 days anyhow.

I do use John Freida frizz ease after and want to cut that out too can anyone suggest a good alternative? perhaps something natural like an oil without becoming greasy.

Yes it does make my hair a little poofy. I'm using a small amount of Organix coconut anti break serum. This does have cones in it but I can honestly say I haven't had any build up or problems using this serum so I will carry on with it until it runs out. I use coconut oil as a overnight conditioner (which washes out beautifully with the conditioner) and this seems to tame the poofy/fluffyness the next day.

When my serum has run out I am going to experiment going completely "cone" free and I hear that unrefined coconut oil is really good as a defrizzer. You only use a small amount and just on the ends to stop it looking greasy. In fact tomorrow I will try it and report back as to whether it compares to serum.

I used Morrisons Value conditioner this morning (36p). I was expecting it not to be as good as the coconut shampoo from tescos but....it has left my hair just as clean, soft and conditioned so I'm impressed.

The only downside to this kind of CO washing (for me) is that is can be rather boring! I miss the shopping experience of buying and trying different products, the bottles don't look nice in my bathroom and I miss the gorgeous smells you get from the pricier products. I don't feel as pampered as I did when I splashed out on Bedhead. I found myself lingering around the hair aisle in the supermarket yesterday (I'm getting withdrawal symptoms!) Then felt a bit deflated puting the 36p value conditioner in my trolley!
  • But think of the money your saving! Im hoping to never go back pricey designer shampoos and conditioner (I could never use cheaper shop bought shampoos been through the lot nothing agreed with my hair)
