Collecting cardholder information for CNP transactions
When a customer is not present for the sale, you must obtain the following information in order to verify their identity and help validate the transaction.- card number
- cardholder name and initials as shown on the card
- card expiry date
- card issue number (where applicable)
- cardholder statement address (including postcode)
- contact telephone number, (not a mobile number)
You may be asked to produce this information if the transaction is disputed at a later date.
As telephone orders present the greatest risk, you may also wish to record the time and date of the conversation.
We now recommend that you input some more information to help authenticate the identity of the customer. These new checks involve obtaining the card security code (CSC) and verifying the cardholder’s address (AVS).0 -
the home telephone number must have been made up because we didnt give them one only my mobile becuase of work.0

Phone book? Directory enquiries, ask your bank what phone number they used0

ah yes we are in that!0

Are not those details recommended as a safety measure for the seller, as can be seen there are ways to bypass them if you are that way inclined. I would still think a mosey on down to garage and ask to see the c/c slips involved. If they do not show the OP's signature then its fraud. After that its up to him how he proceeds.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

You do not need these bits of info to process a transaction. However if it is later disputed and you don't you (the retailer) have more chance of the card company starting proceedings to recover the money.0 -

Customer not present transactions don't have a signature section on them because errrrrrr the customer is not present!0 -
thinker., What is the model and spec of the car you have bought, there must be a list price for this. It would be nice to see if you really have got a bargain.

I think even I could work that out  but there are other c/c slips used where the customer does not have a pin number and so a signature slip is printed out.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
the bank said it came up as cardholder not present.peter_the_piper wrote: »I think even I could work that out  but there are other c/c slips used where the customer does not have a pin number and so a signature slip is printed out.
Dear god. Yes but only if the customer is present.
The dealer clearly selected customer not present when prompted hence the bank giving the OP the above information. I.e. there will not be a signature section, so trundling down to the dealership to see if the c/c slip is signed will prove the square root of !!!!!! all.0
