I do alot of customer not present transactions, they need your credit card number(which they will have from there earlier receipt)your security number from the back of the card(which they should not have)and your house number and the numbers from your postcode(which they will have from the paperwork I presume)
I cant work how they have managed to charge you
Actually they need only the card number, expiry date, and start date or issue number (all of which will be shown on the merchant copy from the original transaction). The security code/CVC from the back of the card is not required, but some (all?) banks will charge the merchant an additional fee if they don't supply this information. The other information is useful as a security check, but is not required. This might vary depending on which bank processes your card transactions, but where I work we can put them through without the security code or address.0 -

You do not need all this info. Next time you putting the details in just keep pressing enter0 -

says that companies dont necessarily need the cv2 number0 -
I wonder if they know this, just how many times they've done it before?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Well they have obviously messed up here.
I think on balance, given the state of the paperwork you would probably get away with it therefore you should fill in the required forms and recover the money from your bank. As had been pointed out this is effectively fraud the way they obtained it.
Only you can answer whether morally you are trying to pull a "fast one" and are capitalising on a salesman's mistake.0 -

""It is not mandatory for a merchant to require the security code for making a transaction, hence the card is still prone to fraud if its number only is known to phishers.""I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

its amazing when you start digging into this it opens up a complete can of worms. I think paying by cash wherever possible (smaller amounts) is the safest way to make transactions after this.0
