Someone is missing a very important point here, if the dealership mis-calculated the scrappage deduction, then would it not have been better for them to have contacted the op to explain the error, and give them the option of either paying the extra £2k, or cancelling the deal.

  • Bur wouldn't the dealer need the security code on the back of the card to make a transaction without the customer being present?

And those details aren't on the slip that the dealership would have had.

Covering their !!!! as the OP is now driving around in shiney new car.

However dubious the method this now ensures that they are not out of pocket and the owness is on the OP to sort it out.

How much was the car? (i.e. what did the price ticket say, or what price did you negotiate?)

£2k is a lot of money, so surely you must know whether you agreed to pay £10k or £12k for the car??? (Assuming you got £2k for scrappage of your old car).

The garage were not permitted to authorise the extra payment without your consent, so I would phone them up and tell them to refund it immediately otherwise you will be reporting them for fraud.

If you did agree £12k for the car (and thus owe £2k), then perhaps let the garage know what they did was fraudulant, so they need to refund it, and you'll arrange to pay the extra £2k and get a receipt to prove it.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

sounds like a wind up merchant or a chancer in my opinion, all that was needed was a few answers to a simple question.

Book price of car: e.g. £12000
    Scrappage Allowance: £2000
    Balance due: £10,000

unless of course the asst read the "balance due" as the cost of the car , then deducted the scrappage amount, not realising this had already been accounted for...but answers to those simple questions will easily determine if you are a chancer, a simple error has occured, or they have messed up...

thanks for all of yor replies.,

I have an invoice which states that we agreed to pay £10,500 for the car.
We then paid £500 deposit which left us with £10,000 to pay.
We therefore had £2000 scrappage to come off this price (scrappage discount not mentioned on invoice) and the balance £8000 to pay by cash(for which we have a receipt).

Having spoken to the dealership today they said it was a mistake an I should have known the book price was £12,500 and based on that I know that the £10,500 included the scrappage discount.

This is not our understanding at the time we paid the deposit. We went to the garage late around 5.30pm and he did seem to rush through the paper work with us but as far as we were concerned we had £10,500 to pay which we have in £2000 scrappage and £500 deposit and £8,000 cash(debit card).

The dealership has accused me of pulling a fast one today all I want is to pay the price agreed. They wouldn't tell me how the extra £2,000 was taken but having spoken to a friend of mine who owns his own business my card details would be on the original merchant reciept when we paid £8,000 for the balance remaining.

As a secondary point surely this is not acceptable.

    Thankyou

    Right let me check.

    On the Invoice/Order form:
    Sales Price: £10,500
    Deposit: £500
    Px (with scrappage): £2000
Balance to pay on collection: £8000

This is what the Garage meant it to be:
    Sales Price: £12,500
    Deposit: £500
    Px (with scrappage): £2000
Balance to pay on collection: £9,500

    Actually paid so far:
    Deposit: £500
    Px (with scrappage): £2000
Balance to pay on collection: £8000
    Sneaky extra bit taken: £2000

I think if you fill this in it will help everyone understand a little clearer.
  • INVOICE

    Total Price £10,500
Deposit £500 (although sales person has written this on the balance line bizzarly!)
    Balance Due From Customer £10,000

scrappage is not mentioned. although on bottom of the invoice it does mention our scrappage car but with no value and no reg just car and colour. The sales person said they would apply scrappage once we give them more details.
Also the invoice is not signed by either me or the dealer does this matter?

    OP has invoice for £10,500

    They paid £500 deposit.

    Balance was then £10,000.

Scrappage to come off = £2000

    Balance was then £8000

    OP paid £8000 by card.

Motor co, took a further £2000 from OP's card because they said they make a c0ck up of the scrappage money.

If OP has an invoice for £10,500 then surely that is the price to be paid?

If it were me, I'd be taking the car back for a full refund (deposit and all) and going elsewhere who knows what they are doing on paperwork.

This is where you come unstuck i think. Balance due from the customer means just that.

Allthough i am confused as this doesn't sound like any invoice i have ever seen (and i've seen thousands). Also when you left the deposit did they give you a order form, if so what did it say on that.

I know its a pain but could you list it exactly as it is on the invoice. E.g. is their and road tax, discounts etc etc. Every line!

Hopefully with all the information their is a logical solution, hopefully in your favour.
